I just picked this one up from humphreybougart and was thought to be a male. I had it probed and was told it's a GIRL. Don't know what to think now.

Didn't He buy thinking it was a female? Man that ball sure makes some confusion ;)

I love the stripe!

Yeah he did. Then he probed it himself and thinks it's a male.

Depending on how old IT is, you still may be able to pop it for a 100% accurate answer.

How do you pop it without hurting it. I've never done it before

DEPENDING on how old and/or large IT is, "popping" may not be an option. IF you don't know how to do it, take IT to someone that does. (I recently "popped" a 16 month old, 1100g male for those of you who don't think you can accurately pop a larger ball).

I saw the advertisement for that ball. I think its supposed to be 2000 grams. So i think it would be ok.

I've also heard that you can tell if it is a male or female by the way the tail looks.

Yeah the guy i had probe it also said that and said it's a girl too. I don't really care that much what (she) is lol. she's great anyway. It would just be a bonus for me!

You can take a good guess by the way the tail looks but can't really be sure. If you want to be sure you'll have to pop or probe.

It was probed twice when in my possession (sp?) and the first time was 7 subcaudal scales and the next day it was 8. The spurs might as well have feet on the end of them. I'd be saying it's a male. Females go in 2-4 scales, males 7-10. I also put "it" in with a couple of my horniest males (not at the same time) and they had no interest in "it" at all. And vice-versa. But when it was in with my super-receptive female, she went crazy as soon as "he" was put in there. But you never know I guess.

The guy who probed it for me said he only got 3 subcaudal scales. Anyways i'm going to have her checked again.

Actually, if you pick up a copy of the Ball Python Manual, it has a tail comparison pic of a male and female ball pythons tail. There is a huge differeence in the tails.

The only definite way to get a good reading is to probe it properly. Popping of any snake over a certain age, can’t remember, have to strong of muscles to let you pop their "stuff" out. You will think every one is a female, but it may be a male holding it in.
