Here is a picture of the completed terrarium. I wish I could take credit for making it, but JD Terrariums did all the work. All I did was to show him a sketch of what I wanted and he did the rest.
There are 2 compartments at the bottom of the tank; the left one is a hide box which is accessible through a hole in the tank. It is also useful during cleaning as well, as I can just place a rubbermaid in there and sweep all the old substrate down. The right compartment is used for storage, but can house a snake once I install a heat pad/flexwatt and lighting. Both compartments have ventilation in the back.

If you don't mind me asking, what did he charge you? Does he have a website? Other than Shanes pics of the last expo, I had never seen him before.

Hi Greg, I believe that he is fairly new to the business, although he has been making cages for his own reptiles for the past few years.

I paid slightly under $600 for my terrarium, as I wanted the hide box and storage space at the bottom, as well as the drain hole. Both compartments have been sealed with smooth plastic to make them waterproof, and include vents and a hole for wiring. Oh, and delivery to my place was included as well.

He mentioned that a similar 6x2x3 terrarium sans the compartments would be around $400-450. He also makes plainer terrariums for people on a budget.

I don't think he has a website, but I will ask him when I next speak to him (I am saving up for yet another terrarium).

Here is a pic of one of his cheaper terrariums. They also look really nice.

Hope this helps.

What wood does he use? Melamine? They look good. Is that one above have a bow front? How would you get access?

Greg

ps. That seems like a pretty good price btw. Is yours a top and a base, or one unit? Looks like 2 but im not sure. How heavy is it?

He uses melamine, and seals the interior with some kind of plastic and silicone. Yes, the one above has a bow front, and it is accessible from the back.

My terrarium is a single piece, and its really heavy, it took 3 people to lift it to my apartment.

I guess he wouldn't want to deliver it to my apt, we're on the 4th floor with no elevator... ouch.

Just wondering what's going into that cage because the hole for the access looks real small for any snake that would live in a cage of that size.

Lisa, I am on the 16th floor. My building has elevators, but they nearly had to take the stairs (ouch!) as the terrarium could barely fit into the elevators.

Jeff, the access hole has a diameter of about 5 1/2 inches. It is going to house a bci. It does look small in the pic, must be due to the lights. In the pic, I cant tell where the floor and the back wall meet.
