Average import price $250-375. Captive bred price $400-750 and up to $5k for designer animals. And you shouldn't be looking for a baby that has been sexed. That is only spelling trouble later on as the chondro grows.

Those are American dollars. Multiply those numbers by about about 1.3-1.5. And Brandon is right. GTP's can't be sexed very early on, so finding a baby male isn't an option.

how often would you find a classified ad by someone trying to sell one for cheaper?

All the time. But they are from either non-reputable breeders or they are wild caught. With an animal that is going to live 15-20 years, I wouldn't skimp and get a questionable animal for 5% less. I'd get a well-started baby from someone like Don Patterson.

GTPs are buyer beware! Only buy CBB because if you buy one that is not whether you mean to or not you can get stung pretty bad. I picked one up in October that is still in quarantine. So far it's had two anti-biotic treatments and two throat cultures. Not only did I pay too much for it in the first place I've since spent about $175 on vet bills and meds.
Needless to say I've got a CBB baby coming from Don in the spring.

Yeah I agree. CB all the way. You can end up heartbroken and broke by trying to save a couple hundred bucks in the long run. In Canada or the USA.
