After taking the weight of some of my girls, I realised one of them is over 1200 grams....... always thought of her as my little girl but she's not so little anymore!

Think it's too late to put a male in there and actually have a successful breeding with eggs? She's not cooled or anything either, so would I have time to drop her temps too?

Thanks for any suggestions
:)

I hope it's not too late because Bristen just droped his pastel off and he has only seen one of my 6 females so far.lol It's not too late. Balls breed into March.
Good luck,
Trevor

I was curious about ball python breeding habits. As anyone ever tried the breed the out of season? I mean instead of dropping temps in Oct, drop them in say June or July, and cool them in the summer months as if they were being cooled in the winter months. Give them the same photoperiod they would experience during the cool months. Would something like this be successful or do ball pythons have their own internal clock that lets them know when it is time to breed? If it is just based on environment que's couldn't these ques be simulated at anytime of the year?

My real breeding doesn't even start until Feb./March.

I have often had the same thoughts roll through my head as you vengeance... That would definetly cut down on the amount of competition IMO. Seeing as you could either have a spring ball or a fall ball rather than all at once when people drop prices to compete.

Well that's good news! Glad to hear it, i'll start cooling her tonight!

as for breeding them any time, apparently you can't...... I seem to remember seeing a post recently saying that they don't get fertile clutches after a certain point of the year.

They KNOW what the season is, somehow.

I have seen ads on ************** giving D.O.B. for october and september that means they would of had to breed later than march. Also there is a BP breeder in Knoxville Tennessee I talk to and he breeds out of season but has a high percentage of slugs.

I've hatched out eggs in May, June, July, August, September, October, November, and December. In 2002 I had TWO clutches hatch in mid December.

The majority of my eggs hatch in July and August.
