Rescued Female

Here is female that I rescued,she was born with a bad spinal deformation but other than that is very healthy, eats well and is about 1 and 1/2 years old now.

I would think so. If she can eat, digest and defecate and the injury is nowhere near her ovaries, oviduct(s?) or cloaca, then why wouldn’t she be able to reproduce, right? :)

I was just going to ask everyone if they think she would be ok to breed. If there was any chance that her health would be I affected I would'nt even take the chance, but seeing as the deformaty is nowhere near her cloaca and she is healthy otherwise I might give it a shot. I 'll be breeding a male pastel to other females I might put him with her as well. Bartman she came from work,she had been upstairs for the longest time and I knew we were'nt going to sell her so I asked if I could take her home. She was the best looking one fron that clutch too!!! too bad for the deformatiy but at least we did'nt have to put her down.

Curious, I thought when breeding snakes with kinks or snakes that were born with a deformity, the reason for not breeding was that the trait might pass down to the offspring as opposed to the overall health of the animal?

I have to agree with Vengence? If it is an abnormality they were born with I would be concerned they could pass it on to the offspring. She has gorgeous color though.

Thats what I thought to, if it was a natural deformity then it would be *best* to not breed. If it is an INJURY then that would be different.

So is it a deformity or an injury?

I think the birth defect is not genetic. I think I remember reading in The Reproductive Husbandry of Pythons and Boas that alot of these defects happen when the eggs are incubating and the fetus is developing within the egg. Too high a temp or too low temp can cause the fetus to not develop proparly and cause defects such as this one. I could be wrong though,maybe someone else can shed some light on the subject.

Well it wouldnt make sense if it was passed on because in humans, which might not be a great example, you can have a handicaped child who lets say had a kid, they wouldnt be deformed..would they?

Ya, but you wouldn't be able to tell if it was a birth defect, or a defect because of to high of heat/to low heat/not enough humidity, or whatever the cause.
