Hi I am new to this forum and I need some help.I have 1 male and 1 female common boa.My question is ,they are both very inactive and they are dog pileing alot? Would this be a sign that there is something wrong medically with them? There temp. in there cage is 88'F warm side &83' F cool side. The hum. is between 55-60%.They both have good appitites. Can someone put my fears to rest.

How old are they? It may be possible they are breeding and are tail locked? Just a thought.

First off, unless you've just introduced your boas with the intention of breeding them, they need to be housed in separate cages -- snakes are not social animals, and being housed with another snake can be very stressful for them. For more information on why housing snakes together is wrong, check out the FAQ section on Tim Cranwill's site (http://www.cranwill.com).

That being said, once you've got them separated you may still notice them being a little less active than usual -- I find quite a few of my snakes to be less active during the winter months, even if they're not being cooled for breeding.

ya you'll find that with the shorter days of winter some snakes just slow down

I'm a little slow today.

Please tell me, what is "dog pileing" ? This is a new one for me.

The great thing about these forums is that you can always learn something new.

dog piling is a game, frequently played by children that involves piling up in piles of people

it is usually started when one of the children identifies another as the target

the so called "target" is then brought to the ground after the call of "dog pile" is sounded by the leader

after the target is brought to the ground, the remaining children pile on top of him, resulting in a "dog pile"

dog piles are also frequently seen on the football field after a tackle or fumble

here we have a dog pile of cheerleaders (probably the best kind)

Thanks latazyo, kinda like Rugby without the ball, except in this case one snake would lie or 'pile' on top of the other.

'Dog piling' , another new (for me) herping term.

Also, Yours snakes might be "competing" for the best spot. Maybe they both want that specific location in the cage. Obviously they cant both have it without "dogpileing". So you should have them housed seperately.

Leighton, you sly dog... slipping that photo out...

What a day! I was simply walking by the cheerleaders on the beach, when the Head Cheerleader pointed her french manicured finger at me and yelled "Dogpile!!!"

It was quite a day! You can't quite see me in that pic, but I'm underneath that girl in a cheerleader costume! ;)

Ahhh, memories!

so let me get this straight, you're trying to make the cheerleading team to prove to a girl that you're NOT a loser?

yeah why?

I guess some things have changed since I was in high school
