I've read how breeders sometime allow male JCP's to fight in order to breed. I stopped feeding them back in late November and have been cycling them since. Daytime temps low 80's/night time temps low 70's-high 60's on occassions. This is my first year attempting to breed JCP's and was wondering should I let the males go at it or should I wait?

I have 2.2 JCP's all adults, I've been pairing them on and off for about 2 weeks now and have only witness very little action from one male. The other seems to need Viagra!!

Do you think I should try letting them fight? How do you go about this? How long do you let them go at it? When do you separate? Should I leave the winner with both females or let each male have his own female?

Please help..

I have been combating a few male this year as one of my males needed viagra as well lol

My male jungle is a great stud but my male irian did not seem hetero .. I made him fight with a small male coastal on one occasion and a larger male jungle.. on both occasions I leave no winners.. about 5 minutes or less together..

I let them twirl around together a bit then I will seperate them very quickly. I ussually will do this around 7-9 at night this way I introduce my males back to the species specific females..

I Personally see no problenm in fightimg males that are not in breeding mode with different locales. Its alwasy worked for me ..

Anyways .. best of luck to you

Some Jungles don't begin breeding until after cycling.

For now, I'll just keep switching the males around after every 7 days. I also won't feed them till after all breeding trials are finished.

Question, when do you guys call it quits till next year?
April, May, June, July?

I've never had a Carpet egg layed later than July 11th. So subtract incubation time, POS time, ovulation time, follicular-building time, etc etc, I would say that any breeding after May is not beneficial. But that's in MY situation. I ain't claiming anything for anyone else.

Thanks, I figure I'll call it quits around late March - mid April. Still toooo early to even consider failure.

My boas got off to a great start as soon as introduction. I'm confident the JCP's will pick things up by Feb.

I don't know whether to feel stupid, thrilled, or both!

You guys will never believe this, but today I got home and as usual no action with the JCP's. I decided to see what would happen if I left both males in the cage with both females. I was expecting some sort of combat, shoving, one male trying to pin the other, etc.

They were off to a slow start so I decided to leave the room for 30 minutes. Well, when I got back to check on them.....The smaller male was copulating with the larger male!!! Yes, I witnessed copulation!! Needless to say I think the larger male turned out to be a female!! Unless I have the only homosexual jungle carpet python in the world!! He/she is 5ft in length, I guess I should have probed him/her when I got it and not gone by the larger spurs, previous owners word and smaller size compared to my other females.

Eitherway I am thrilled just to see some action in the JCP's cage!

Question? Now that my only smaller male about 4-1/2ft has three females to try and satisfy, should I seperate and feed him every now and then?
