Hey

Thanks a lot. I perfer them to be a forest enclosure because I what I use made it look foresty. I heard a lot about bad stuff about sand, that its harder for them to pass through there body and such. So then I heard people suggested to use "bed a beast" or "eco-earth" both the same thing. Ever since I used it, it was great stuff. The little guy you see in the picture has eaten a little bit of the substrate and has passed it out wonderfully.

You can see the fake plants in the tank(I don't use real ones cause I always some how kill them lol). I dont use a water dish because it doesnt make it look natural, unless its one of those hagen looking ones lol. So instead of using a water dish I use fake plants to hold the water. As you can see shes drinking from the leaves. I spray around twice a day and they only drink once in a while. But I know they get plenty of water:D.

Also I use drift wood and rocks. The heat lamp gives off the heat and both the wood and rocks will absorb it making it a great place for her to bask and such. I do not use a heat pad even though there great! But I find that heat lamps are just as effective. Heat lamp allows me to see the enclosure and it warms it up. But you need to know what wattage to use or it will get to hot or to cold. Most of you will probly ask wut about at night when it cools down? Well in the wild it gets pretty cold for those geckos, sometimes colder then my room. But they do fine at night, never had a problem.

lol I pretty much gave you how I cared for her, hope you didnt mind. It was sorta the only way to explain. I'll try and get the pictures as soon as I can. I sold my older gecko and I have moved her into my older geckos enclosure but its pretty much the same thing. So I'll get the pictures up as soon as I can.

If you got any questions just ask:D

Meow, you need to give consideration to a water dish. Look for one of the "rock" types to fit with your choice of environment. Misting the tank would work well for another type of gecko, but leo's are native to an arid environment... and the increased humidity and condensation, will, eventually, take a toll on her lungs :( Some others here will comment on setup and temps and such, do the research, the choice is yours. I settled for a happy medium... (well, happy for me, anyway) slate tile for most of the enclosure, and a peat hide/lay area. Looks good, and works. Dragndrop's hot hide is on the left. :D

:) Or, just use a ceramic saucer, and "bury" it flush with your choice of substrate... yes, you'll need to clean it out, likely daily, but she can have a good drink of water without raising humidity in the environment.

ya you really gotta duoble think your tank.. it may look great but it might not be the greatest thing for the health of the animal.... i can see you dont like sand but maybe some tile or slate stone... even rocks.... whats the humidity like... i used to spray my leos once or twice a week but stoped that cause humidity was to high,,, its still quite high id hate to imagin what yours is like.. bed a beast and such hold alot of moisture wich in return will raise the humidity... on top of the mistings.... it looks like a great enclosure and i have no doubt on how well you care for your animals... i dont mean to imply that you dont... but the higher humidty is a concern... im sure your temps are fine and such... its just the humidity... you should use a stone or sonething for the bottom of you dont want to use sand... you can still have it foresty without the humidity... even though there a desert animal they do enjoy driftwood and such to climb on....

im really sorry if i sound like im comming off really strong i dont mean to be... just take what i said into concideration please...

if nothing else get a water dish and stop misting..... that is definatly a must... that could end up being the easy solution...

nothing may have gone rong with leos in there yet but theres still time....( i hope nothing does happen)... a natural enclosure is a great thing.... as long as the envrioment suits the animal...

ps.... i really like what i see from this point and would really like to design my central american banded geckos tank around this.... it looks like it would fit it to a T... is there lots of hides and such... how big is the tank... ect. ect...

Thanks for you concerns. I did not know that the humidty could be such a problem. Well you learn something new everyday. After I read Painted Desert post, I quickly used my of my rock dishs. I just never knew it was that bad. I guess I'll start to spray once a week. I jsut took the picture of that tank I'll load it up now

Heres what shes living in right now. I'm not sure hwo many gallons it is but its big. You can make a lot of hiding spots but I didnt because I only have one guy leaving in there. Sometimes she'll sleep in the bushes and such.

thats no problem, I could understand why. Ya now that I know humidty was a problem I thought I should put the dish in. No its not the same tank, the other one is a 10 gallon. I sold my other gecko and gave the little the bigger tank.
