View Full Version : Breeding
I have a male corn thats about 30 inches long he's feeding on hoppers do you think he will be successful reproducing with 2 adult females that are 3 1/2 and the other is 4 feet in length in april? my plan is to keep him going till then 2 hoppers a week so he will be able to match them?
and what might i get if i pair a het amel with a ghost corn?
Merry Christmas everyone!

Sean,
It is possible that he would be able to breed with the females.
They're males....dont really need the size....as long as he knows what to do and is fertile~
I have heard of babies as young as 9 months old to breed true for males. So anything is possible~
As for the pairing,
Normal het amel x Ghost = Normals het Hypo, Anery (Ghost) poss het amel
Supercool perfect thanks simon!
Merry Christmas!
because of his size and young age compared to the females should i brumate him to increase sperm? or just power feed so he gets bigger?

Good luck with the breeding attempts. I would tend to try feeding him well to achieve some size rather than brumating him - corns will breed with good fertility even without cooling. You may find that the increased size will help him get the female to cooperate with him. I used a young, small 18 month old male this past spring that had not been cooled and he had no problem breeding. Just my opinion though -
good luck with these guys and hope you can post some pics!

No problem - was away on holidays for a few days so didn't get to the list at all - reason for late reply.
Best of luck growing him up - they are such pigs at this age!! Look forward to pics of them,
