Big girl was cruising around big time after I put a shed skin of a male in her cage. Then she started cloacal gaping and looked generally interested in smelling it for hours, LOL! So I popped my biggie male in there.

Sorry about the photo, but it was through glass in complete darkness. Can we say MANUAL settings on the DC??

Cool:

Good stuff Jeff!! Is this the only pair of Dums you're dealing with this year??? My two have been locked up for what seems like two weeks straight now.. Hoping for a larger litter than last, but anything is better than nothing :D

Good luck bro!

Holy crap JF, do you breed EVERY species out there or what? I can't believe how many different snakes you work with. I wish I had that kind of time (ha ha or knowledge).

Best of luck.

Thanx guys! Kyle, you fooo.............. ;)

Thanks CC. My approach to snake keeping/breeding is a little different than most. I could have EASILY not acquired all the species I work with and just got 20 different Ball Python or Bci morphs. But that's not what gets my motor going, know what I mean? Sure it would have been financially smarter, (ha ha no kidding), but what the he!!. At the end of the day, I'd rather produce 10 different species and make 1/10 the amount of money I'd make just breeding one. I like the challenge of it. I like every DIFFERENT aspect of every DIFFERENT animal I keep. There isn't much of a challenge hatching 100's of the SAME type of snake. My hat's off to the people that do it however, and I'm certainly not preaching. Its just not for me. I like to go into the reptile room and see 10 different types of snakes being born/hatching in any given week. That's what makes it so fun!

Cheers guys,

JF

Both my pair of Dums have been at it for weeks now. I'm pretty sure one of the female has taken already. Male has lost interest even bit her once, and female is heating up all day. I agree with Jeff on variety.

One, maybe two. Gotta keep the baby count under 500, so I'm not going to be stooopit with them. LOL!

Kinda cool Jeff! That's flipping awesome bro! I'm so excitted for you. I'm hooked on Dums these days. I'm trying to decide whether I have to move something out to bring a pair in or whether or not I should just bring them in.
Oh and I have the same philosophy as you do. Lot's of different species instead of lots of one species.
Congrats Yoda,

Nice to see you working with GTP's, Dum's, and Woma's - rather than just getting more balls, which, like you said would have likely been more profitable in the long run.

You got real good at BRB's and Jungles, I'm glad you are starting to expand to more kinds of snakes.

What about the monitors? Breeding any, getting more?

My one male Ackie kicked (old age) and all the babies we kept back (9) were ALL females! The monitor gods gave me a kick in the neck, no doubt. Have a new male coming so the monitors will be back in full swing.

Its funny though, but the most money I spent was on Colombian Boas! Ha ha. More than the Womas, which was about the same as the GTP's. There's crazy money to be made out there, but at the same time, its not the be all end all. If I didn't find it fun to do, then there's also a million other things that can make me tons of money that I would hate doing (ala "real" job, ha ha!) So if I want to keep doing this, I better make it as fun as possible!!

Gotta admit though, from a pure business standpoint, the Balls and Boas can certainly pick up the slack financially if you have a bad year at the other 10 species. Its good security. $15K here or there goes a LONG way. 'specially with my cheap a$$. LOL!!!
