i bought a colombian " red tail" boa from a pet store in April. How do i tell if it is a bcc or a bci and what exactly is the difference between a bcc and a bci? Can a bcc be bred to a bci and if so what do they produce?

Taken from the FAQ sheet at the top of this page...
What is the difference between a Colombian Bci and a Bcc?
The differences between the two subspecies are minimal. Bcc were the original "redtailed boas", however several decades ago dealers began applying the same name to the Colombian boas in order to squeeze some extra money out of their sales, as "true redtails" tended to have a nicer appearance to them. Bcc sometimes display a brighter tail colouration, more colouration throughout their body (silvers and/or pinks and/or purples), shaplier saddles that may have more contrast, and less than 22 saddles. Bci may have more or less than 22 saddles, which makes this method of identification unreliable. Bci have a much quicker growth rate than Bcc do and can easily attain lengths of 6' or more by their second birthday. They generally have the same maintenance requirements.
Here's a recent thread that may be of interest to you in regards to crossing the two subspecies...

well if its a colombian red tail it is bci
Not true. There are both Colombian BCI and Colombian BCC. The Colombian BCI is often refured to as the Colombian Red Tail when in fact the name Colombian Red Tail should only be used to describe the Colombian BCC because BCC's are the true red tails. The Colombian BCI and the Colombian BCC are seperated by a mountain range. All this info and pics of each the Colombian BCC and the Colombian BCI can be found in the boa constrictor manual as well as the info that Linds already included so I won't repeat it.

While true that there are Colombian Bcc, they are few and far between, since they don't export out of that part of the country apparently. ESPECIALLY if it was purchased in a pet store you can bet it is a Bci.

True, true. There is such a snake but finding one is a challange. Then you have Jeff Ronne who has an article on his website in which he claims that all Colombians are BCC. I think someone needs to teach that boy to count scales.lol
