i have heard sizes for retics being anywhere from 10 ft. tops to 33 ft. tops. if any of you have retics wat are their sizes? and do differeent morphs have different sizes than others? (excluding dwarfs)

The record was almost 33. That is the only one ever measured over 30’. The largest ever held was 28’. The captive born babies you are getting the market now will average about 15 feet for females and 13 feet for males. Stand by, plenty are going to come behind me and try to tell you that get much bigger. Don’t pay any attention to them. That is all urban legend. A small few do get up to 20’ and they all end up in zoos and reptiles houses. 20’ snakes are in huge demand, if you happen to have one you can sell it for a good price.

Doesn't locality play a pretty big part in it? I'm no retic expert, so correct me if I'm wrong, but I understood that Sulawesis for instance got pretty frickin big...well over 15' for females. Then of course you have your dwarf localities. What's an "average" retic anyway?

If you surf over Bob Clarks photo forum for awhile you'll end up seeing quite a few retics over 15 feet! :)

I know this, many people claim to have 20 ft snakes that turn out to only be 14-16 ft I have been in this hobby for about 12 years and i have never seen a 20' snake. I have seen many that were claimed to be 20' and were proven other wise.
So i would also like to see the prof. After all if it is so common you should have no problem getting a scaled pic of one.

since your the one who doesnt beleive Jayson why dont you go looking for pics. Chuck is right about the average sizes (their was an argument about this 2 weeks ago so i went and researched)
but it is not all that uncommon for them to hit 18 - 20 feet. Even if olny 10 - 15 percent of retic females ever hit the 20 foot range you cant buy a retic "Hoping" it olny turns out be average because it DOES have the potential to become a monster
All an average is is a point in the middle their are lots of snakes on both sides of the scale (smaller and larger)

I agree with Jayson.... Wheres the pics!!!!!!!!!! i have never seen a 20 foot retic not unless at a zoo of course and even then i question the measurement a tad...

concept3 no one is arguing were just simply giving our imput why would we waste hours looking for pics of a 20+ retic anyways SEEING is'nt always believing in a pic.... I seen a 16 foot burm pic and when i showed up to buy the snake she lost 30 pounds and about 5 feet... :)

About the whole average size for females. IMO it largely depends on the locale as well.

I agree with Chuck also. BUT, I think that the average is about 15ft - 18ft rather than 18 ft PLUS or just 15 ft.

Just my opinions though.

Thanks,

B.U.

I was not disagreeing that they got that big, I was disagreeing that the average size was 18'or more.
the point being that if they were actually 18' average then everyone here with a retic over 5 yrs old should have a snake in that ball park and therefore many pics should be post buy now.
But seeing how there are still no pics, that leaves me to believe that the average is not actually 18' but more like 14-15'

I am certainly not saying that an occasional retic will not reach 18 feet. It happens. Every one and a while, a burm will reach 18 feet. But saying that 18 is an average size is a false statement. It is the rare exception that obtains that size. I know people claim to have 18’ retics, but when you put a tape to them, those 18 footers turn into 14 and 15 feet almost every time. Rain forest adventures has a true 20 footer on display, and a 19 foot burm. They are Pigion Forge for anyone in my area who has as interested in big snakes. If memory serves me correct, I have saw three retics and one burm in person that were over 20 feet. For those that say they have not seen a pic of a 20 foot snake, here you go. As I understand it, this one was 26 feet.

In My opinion..there are alot of people out that that tend to exagerate. If they say there snake is 20 f. long chances are its 16 or 18 f...which still to me is AWSOME, thats still a big snake..so there really is no reason to stretch the truth about it. responding to the origional question. No there is yet to be a snake found that reaches 33 feet. I thought the record was 29 and some inches, but Chuck may be right. But my advice would be..dont believe everything you hear from people...even on here...caz some people just like to fool around. Do your research check on the Guiness World Records site...or book...caz if i had a 33 foot snake..it sure as hell would be recorded in there.

The retic we have at work is at least 19 feet, as when stretched out in a 16' tank it goes beyond it and around the side. He is also a MALE. We have a female that is at like 17 feet and just goes a bit around the tank. When we put them in the tanks they were very active and I was able to see them stretched up against the back.

I think they get way bigger then 15 on average...

Is there any way you can get pics of that 19' monster male? I am not saying it isn't true, but are you sure it is a male?

While on this subject, I had a retic back in the last 70's that was over 18' when I finally sold it to a zoo. One very beautiful beast. A fellow herp friend and importer had a Indian python over 21' not sure of its weight but it was big!.
I also had a female burm that was 17+, I raised her from a juvinile of about 4' .

I would love to get either a retic or Burm now but our new local bylaws prohibit anything over 9'.

Oh, Chuck? that pic of the 26' above, do you know where this snake is? I judge its in a zoo from the looks of the pics.

If anyone lives in the Illinois area you can go up to the gurnee mills mall and see a the heaviest snake ever recorded named baby she is a burm and i'm pretty sure she is 20+ feet. the place is called serpent safari i think. I've seen her and she is huge. He also has a pretty big anaconda that was used in the movie. (not the whole movie just certain shots)
