I just bought a 9 month old female crested gecko from the same guy I bought my male from, I got a good deal on her since she had a missing tail but she seems to walk around with her mouth open quite often. She climbs, eats and drinks but for some reason has her mouth open quite a bit. Her calcium sac looks ok but I put a dish of calcium powder in there for her to take calcium from as well as putting it in her apricot baby food. When I bought her, her mouth wasn't open and the whole time I held her she kept her mouth closed but as soon as she ate baby food is when she started walking around with it open. Also when I first put her in her tank she drank a ton of water from her bowl which my male doesn't do too often he mostly drinks off the sides, so I take it she was really thirsty.
Any sugguestions?

Cage temp is 71.3 according to my temp gun, she has a humid hide, climbing spots, regular hides, etc, paper towel substrate, and the only reason I have her seperate from my male is I wanted to put her on a quarintine period and make sure she was well calcified and healthy before introducing them.

Figured I'd give an update I spoke to a breeder I've been talking to he said it was a possibility of dehydration or D3 deficiny, I believe it was dehydration so I gave her a tupperware lid of water and a cup of D3 just to lap out of as needed, also I have been spraying the cage twice daily and spraying her down once a day just wondering how everyone else feels about this method, he told me its the way to go about it but just want some more oppinions, because this is what I do for my male anyways minus the bowl of D3, so should I possibly spray her more or no?

I have read that it could be MBD caused by a insufficient amount of calcium and vitamen D3. Im not too sure what you can do but provide extra calcium/D3, maybe a trip to the vet. Best of luck with her and keep us updated.

I hope its not as serious as MBD but like I said she's getting lots of calcium with D3, in her food, and in a seperate dish and if theres days she doesn't want to eat as I know they dont eat constantly but she has eaten so far, but I will put it in her water on the days she decides not to eat. Thanks for your concern I'll keep everyone posted, hopefully she pulls through and this will be my first reptile rescure if she does which will be cool. Glad the 5 I got from erik at gecko madness are in excelllllent shape and are top quality I'll have pictures of all my new crested up as soon as I get my digital camera software downloaded again as we had to recently delete everything and i lost a ton of pictures :(
