Hey everyone, just a quick question for ya. I have a 1.1 pair of cresties in a 30 gallon tall tank with multiple hidespots, but the female is displaying a slight lack of toleration for the male. The male is also significantly thinner than she is. I had separated him for awhile, believing that any tension in the tank would cause him to reduce his food intake, but his appetite did not change when he was separated. I have heard some "calling" in the past when they were together, so I am thinking that they are getting ready to breed. They have now been placed together again. However, the female takes a mock bite at the male every once in awhile if he gets too close for her own comfort. Is this normal with cresties? I've seen my leopards do this, but have not witnessed it with other geckos until now with the cresteds. Just want to find out if this is common with them.

Thanks very much,
Adam

My cresties are usually seen fighting. I've kept them in groups of 1.2, but right now I have two seperate groups of 1.1.

I constantly see fighting, the male will bite the female or vice versa, sometimes grabbing each others' legs, etc. I've never experienced a lost tail or anything, and any and all fighting is immediately followed up by rowdy crestie breeding...

I know what you mean about 'not being tolerant' of the male, I have a female like that. The male had about with MBD when I got him, and now he's a little 'slow'. She seems a little snippy with him, but I hardly doubt he'd be able to catch her and mate with her if she didn't really tolerate him so much.

I think it's just natural behaviour. I've never seen injuries or anything, and I think it could border on 'play fighting', or at least match the severity of it :p

I wouldn't worry, but that's just my experience talking. Perhaps someone who's seen more aggressive behaviour can help.

I have never seen or heard any fighting going on during my first season breeding between males and female. However I have noticed that when I pair up certain females, they will fight. One time both females were slightly bleeding. Just keep an eye out for any signs of injury.Good Luck!
