I bought a female jungle carpet python bout two months ago. She's really pretty and an excellent snake. Shes just over a year old. I'm fairly experienced with snakes so I avoid getting bitten in most cases. However, she'll still manage to take a shot at my face the odd time when I breath out and trigger her heat pits. In that case I'll tap her head to cancell the feeding instinct. She's bit me a new times, and sometimes she sees me moving my hand shell bite me. I realize that fact that I feed her live makes her more aggressive as well, not to arboreal snakes are always worse tempered. Is this common wit any of your carpets or is my snake just a little overly aggressive??

Ive heard young carpets are extremely nervous but when they're adults they usually calm down. I think its their amazing feeding response that sets off bites when they're adults.
I actually have a baby though and when I bought him the previous owner told me hes kinda bitey. So far I havnt been struck at or bitten (thank god) and he's got an incredible temperment. Im happy I picked out a calm lil dude, and I usually always get lucky like that :)

Yeah my carpet is the most tame of all of my snakes and handleable, she is very curious and she is never tempermental.
With routine handling you should be fine.
now mine is 4-5 yrs old and only bit me 2xs wheni had a mouse in my hand other than that never has or tries

Mine are quite pushy and somewhat nervous, but, I've never been bitten by them. I still don't take my chances, and for the most part, I'll handle them with gloves. I have free handled them without incident too, most likely because I'm super careful.
Heheh... I just got a beautiful 1.1 pair of JCP's from Jeff Favelle...
These beauties are balls of fire... they will strike at anything that moves in front of them... of course.. they are young.. and will calm down with age... but I love the spirited response they have :D
