my mom let her cat into my room and the stupid cat knocked down my B.Smithi terriums. I walk in and see the felon looking at me with both my cages on the floor. One cage landed unopened...the other the lid was completely off. I think the cat ate my spider.:jawdrop: I am hoping against hope that it shows up somewhere. Meanwhile, I am heartbroken, if she did eat my spider I hope she dies a long and painful death from indegestion.
I am practically in tears. Can anyone tell me where to get a replacement female?

I can't help you with the replacement, but you can't blame the cat, blame your mom for letting it in their maybe, but the cats simply doing what cats do. Sorry for your loss, but don't wish harm on your cat for no reason at all.

Yeah I hope the cat is fine, because it's your Mother who is too blame here. The cat was working off it's natural instincts.

Another idea is maybe the cat did not eat your spider at all? They are fast, and hard to see, and I would bet it escaped into the house, not the cats stomach.

Hey,

How big is your b smithi? I know that when they are threatened they brush off a birage of some very urticating hairs for defense, so if its a fair sized spider dont lose hope! But if it is a small sling your cat prolly already ate it, sorry for your lost. I know how it feels as my stupid grandma once sprayed pesticides into my house geckos enclosure thinking that there was a fly infestation in there when i was just feeding it a couple flies and it eventually died a few days later.

Thanks,
Ben

Yup. Cats are brutal when they mix with thse type of pets. It isn't their fault though, they are just following their instincts. I had one break through the screen on an aquarium and steal a rosy boa. Found the little snake (full of punctures) a few weeks later, luckily made a full recovery. I know hwo frustrating it is to have someone else at fault though, my dad has let one of our dogs in to the basement on several occassions... a rat dog amongst 250+ rodents is bad news! I have a 6 month mouse infestation stem to deal with, I had to hand catch over 20 adult male rats one time as well. The fun part is, I had to keep it all secret, as he is terrified of rodents, and I would surely get kicked out if he knew anything was loose  On another note, most of the cats I know lose insects because they like to play with them for a while first. Even at a small size, your T would prolly still try to defend itself, and that would give the cat even more reason to hesitate on 'the kill'. My friend had a T get out for over a year and turn up... so don't give up hope too soon!

My little cat Roxy was the culprit responsible for a missing in action pictus gecko. She managed to sneak nto the frogroom without my noticing while I was on my way out, and when I went back up there about two hours later, I found a critter keeper on the floor, substrate everywhere, and two missing juvenile pictus. She must have been sitting on it, and knocked it off the rack. I managed to find one pictus, but the other one is still MIA.. it has been over a month. But, with all the spiders and loose crickets in the frogroom, he just may still be kickin.
The way I look at it... cats are cats. You can't blame a cat for doing what any cat would do. It was my fault for not being more careful. Though I was frustrated, in hindsight... it all comes down to me.
So.... how can you possibly be mad a a cat when they do something as goofy as sleeping in the sink?

LOL cute pic, Double J :p

Another time Little ******* got in to a tank, had no idea cats could actually open and lift the lids. Thank goodness the tortoise wasn't in there at the time! My sister found my cat in there after hearing a bunch of comotion, got him out, closed it up, then he went in four more times before we got home

I find it pretty funny. Maybe you should keep the cat in there for a few days Linds, after that it would never want to see a tank again!

LOL I don't know about that Aidan! He has his own 11 gallon rubbermaid (complete with newspaper substrate) that he has claimed as his home, and spends a good portion of his time in! LOL maybe being around all these snakes is giving him an identity crisis :p:p:p

Or perhaps he is looking for a good place to hide in case one of your snakes makes an escape!

I wish he was afraid of snakes! I have to put him away everytime I'm working with the big snakes because he tries to jump in their cages when you open them  The only thing that bother my cat is candy (lol... yeah ya read that right :p) and little kids/babies :p

Really, you can't blame a cat for acting like well... a cat. They're predators of all small moving things. I've lost a lizard or two in my day to my cats as well and it taught me one thing.

You can always trust a cat to act like a cat.

I'm very sorry for your loss rae. There's no doubt that it sucks and i'm sure many of us who have other species of pets have been there before. But the cat was just doing what it's supposed to do. I know when something similar happened to me I learned a lot about securing cages a whole lot better right quick.

I always wonder how these cages get knocked over all the time? Why is it that the people who reside with cats, also have their cages precariously perched on the edge of a dresser or something just waiting to be knocked over? It seems rather odd.

Sometime soon, common sense has to take over.

yah really. I have 5 cats and not one of them has yet to break into any of my cages.... probably because I know I have cats therefor don't leave the cages where they can get knocked over and destroyed. Think of them as babies, if they manage to destroy something its your fault for making it so easy for them by placing it in such an easily accessable area. cats are cats, can't expect anything else then cat like behavior from them.
sorry about your loss though.

I remember when it first hit the net 5 or 6 years ago, I don't recall if I believed it or not but I do remember it causing quite a stir amongst the general public. I have a feeling that authorities looked into it and found that it wasn't real and that no cats were being harmed. Thus, to take down the website would be infringing on the creator's freedoms. Not that I condone such a waste of internet space, but what are you gonna do, right?
