What flavor of baby food is better for cresteds? And how much CGD should I mix in?

Mine seem to prefer peach and banana over everything else Ive tried, I also mix an equal part of apples and chicken babyfood with it. I generally add enough GGD (dont use CGD much myself) to change the texture and look, then I mix in a drop or two of water, and a little extra calcium and d3. Just how I do it though.

Groooooooss chicken babyfood :p

Mine like everything, and their favourites seem to be peach and banana. Careful with the banana though, as bananas contain a lot of potassium.

It never dawned on me that the banana is loaded with potassium, duh on me, I normally use peach but thats good to keep in mind! And yeah, chicken baby food is gross, I use it mainly because of my finicky auriculatus hatchlings, make sure they get enough protein etc etc.

i agree is there any trick to gettin a crested to eat?Ive had my baby tiger since last weekend and i have yet to see him eat any of the apricot baby food i put in his enclosure. Also i gave him crickets that he hasnt touched also.Should i leave the crix in the tank over night or take them out?Starting to get alittle worried he only seems to eat when i dip my finger in the baby food and place it to his mouth and even then its just a few licks before he squirms away.Any ideas?Any help would be great this is my first crested.Thanks...

Give them time :D Try to stop handling them and let them adjust. They should start eating. If, in a weeks time you notice no crickets are gone, take out the extra crickets and dab some babyfood on their nose. They'll lick it off, and usually keep licking from a spoon or whatever you're using.

I put CGD in bottle caps and my cresties eat it like dogs eat from their bowls :p

Hand feeding is a great way to get them started on baby food. try peach it seems to be the favorite of most cresteds. If he is not eating his crickets mix in some crested gecko diet or turkey/chicken baby food and hand feed him so that he gets the protein he needs. Eventually he will start eating from a dish.

i have been holding this gecko daily since i purchased it do you think this could be stressing it out? Also i noticed he doesnt move around much hes usually hiding in his foilage and im not really sure if he moves around after i go to bed or not.Hes in a ten gallon...i was just curious if this was normal or not?Do they always "hide" like that?

you will very rarely see them out in daylight hours, and definetly ease off of the handling. Im sure youve noticed they do not like it and Im sure the poor little guy is freaked. Leave him alone for at least 2 weeks, except to feed him and clean. After he is eating and fine It will be ok to handle him for short periods of time every second or third day.

what do you figure the ratio for the turkey/chicken to fruit should be?I also agree i wouldnt want to be any of my bci's at feeding time either:p

I don't know, I think that it would be good to be a male crested. Usually have females around, two or three. They you get food all the time, the fems would love you cause you can lick your eye and your acrobatic. plus you can sleep as much as you want. and with as much as we pamper our cresteds, at least mine, I don't think that it would be so bad. lol

:D I got one of my Cresteds to eat, by dipping my finger in the baby food(Peach) mixed with CGD. Only did it 3 times. but I was happy.

My other one, the younger one just wipes the food of its face :(

How many times u think I should feed em like that?

Also i just have a undertank heater under the tanks as I have one in a 205 gallon plastic tanks, with a blue lid.

and the bigger one in a bit bigger cage. they move around alot. but I want to make sure. As the lamp heaters I am afraid they might be too hot for them, that and they will melt the plastic.

well usually cresteds are fine at room temp, 76-82 degrees would be fine, unless your in the basement you are probably cooking those poor guys. The sooner you leave him alone the sooner he will eat by himself. Alot of times younger geckos wont show much if any intrest in baby food. Its ok dont worry, just feed him crickets and once a week hand feed him baby food just to give him the taste for It. It sounds like to me you guys are handling way too much.Leave them alone give them food, crickets and a dish of baby food and they will do their own thing/

You really don't need an undertank heater, as 1. it's probably way too hot and 2. cresteds are arboreal anyway :p

Crested geckos don't need extra heat! Unless it's freezing. 82 is even a little high...

ah okay I was worried they where cool to the touch

And I do not touch them hardly at all just to try to get them to eat the baby food, the bigger one does. and they do not go for the crickets yet.
