Hi, I have 1.1 Dumeril Ground Boa. They are 5 years old and I want to breed them. But I'm not verry sure for a couple of things.
1st: I'd like to know if we need to leave the eat pad in the terrarium during the cooling? Would it be OK if I only low the temperature to 72-74?
Do I cool them together or seperatly?
I heard that some people continu to feed, with small prey, there female during the cooling. Is it best not to feed them???
Is there someone who have breed Dums?
Tanks 4 you're help!

It all depends on your snakes, I don't need to cool mine very much. I introduced my Dum pairs this week, one did not waste any time the other got a late start. They are deffinetly getting busy! All I uaually do with my Dums is reduce feeding size and frequency in August thru September, reduce daylight hours from 12 down to 8 during September. Let them digest their last meal before introduction.
I will seperate in about 2 - 3 weeks and feed a meal roughly a thrid of what they usually take. Once digested, I'll introduce the male again and repeate the process till the female becomes Gravid and the male loses intrest. Usually they will go at it in October or November, they seem to be very anxious this year.
Keep the temps around 80 and drop slowly if needed. You may need to cycle your snake, you may need to mist them, etc. Once Gravid raise the temps back up to 80F in the cool side, 86-88F basking spot.
Dums are pretty easy as long as your snakes are ready, age, weight and of course health is important.

Look what I found when I got home this afternoon. I had the two together since Monday, this is the first I have caught them together. I didn't even see him court her, I guess she must have woke up in the mood this morning.

I would say for a Dumeril Female 5FT, and I would wait till she is 4 or even better 5 years old.

Here is the last pic I took with one of my female Dums. She is lighter than she looks in this pic. The other is of my youngest male. Both are about a foot bigger now.

My god she is humongest! Mine is 5 years and she is not the alf in size compare to that snake... How hold is she?
And don't worry ssscales I've understood that the only thing that you wanna to do was sharring the happyness of finding you're BCI like that!
And I tank you for that, it's always a pleasure to see sucessfull breeding...;) And I hope I'll see my Dum's like that too!

Thanks, she is about 6-1/2 years old. She was about as thick as that male till she was about 5 years old, this last year and a half she has only grown about a foot longer and has added significant girth compared to the first 5 years. I've been feeding them Colosal Rats twice a month.
Both my BCI's and Dums have locked up, I think my JCP's are waiting for cooler weather to get started.
