View Full Version : Colour Question
I have a two month old crestie(Born July 12th) which has still got that reddish colour,i read anthonyc's page on cresties about the colour change but i cant really see any...i do have pics of the parents would this help determine which colour it will be?Ive read nothing on crestie genetics yet,I still dont have a Rhac book yet,But anyways his fathers a fire...And there is a possibilty of two mothers...he has no fire markings on him at all though so i figure he'll look like his parents...if i showed anyone the parents would you guys possibly be able to tell me which colour he'll turn out as???Oh and could you tell me when he'll start to go to that colour,i know i read the ontogenetic colour change in juvies so does that mean itll only start there???Oh hes also pretty pale at night...both mothers are too, like i said if anyone could tell me how they think he'll look itd be great.
thx bye

Crestie genetics seem to be completely random, pics of the parents are useful but not always concrete. Maybe Hilde can post that Crestie polymorphism genetics chart :D
Adult colours develop as hatchlings get older, but its not something thats definite, like a first shed or something. In my experience some cresties will change, darken up, get spots, and some will stay the same :p

It just so happens the red grandmother is also the mother of those dark brown fire/harlequin cresties like the one Betty posted pictures of in another post. All I did was change the male, and I started getting those dark ones.
