Actually males can breed at 18 months. Weight is a better guideline to go by. Females should weigh around 1000 grams, but can breed successfully at around 800+ grams. Males...usually around 500 grams, but I bred a male at less than 300 grams, and produced 19 fertile eggs.

It all depends as Jeff and Brandon said. Males can be pumped up and bred fairly early, but I wouldn't do that with females. I don't have the experience breeding chondros yet, but I can't imagine rushing into reproduction would be good with a female since she carries the vast majority of the burden. Of my upcoming females, none will be bred before they are four, and with quite a few I'm waiting until they are five, and significantly over 1000 grams.
