Thats insane, the first couple pics I have seen from a video but I would love to see more footage of these giants taking down some prey.

I would love to see the strike and wrap on those. How fast a take down would that be. It would be amazing to watch.

I have a video that shows an Afrock coming out of the water at the prey. It showed the snake openeing it's mouth while still underwater, and exploding out of the water and grabbing the prey animal.

The constriction part is actually quite quick.

This video even shows the impalla (or water buck, or whatever it was) going down the throat of the snake from 2views, one from the nose of the deer, and one from the feet (must have had video cameras planted in a large prey item). The video also shows an x-ray view of the snakes skull bones as it starts to swallow - most amazing video I've ever seen.

Ryan I'd really love to see it .. It would be really interesting .. Any idea where i could get that video??

And those pics are impressive because...?! Look at the snake's belly after she ate. It doesn't even look that stretched and she ate an impala. I'm sure it will get larger after a couple days, but still i was counting on a larger belly. Now, click on the link below and look at the retics girth after that meal. I don't even dare to image the size of whatever she ate.

Very impressive pics Jimmy although one thing i wonder is how long ago was that snake killed - is the prey blotting up ..

.. but I gotta hand it to you its a very large lump ..

I still stick to my original though though .. rocks are still the kings for eating large prey items

Also note that there is a hell of alot of controversery as to whether those pics shots were staged/fake.....Most of us have probably seen those photos a bizillion times various places and questioned the legitamacy of them....and IMO that is nuthing but hype and i would not take anything from a site about man eating snakes too seriusoly man

Also it mentioned that it would likely be impossible for a retic to swallow past the shoulder girdle of a full grown man, now i am not saying a impala/gazelle is harder to swallow that a man (because i would not know, never tried:) )...BUT seeing differnet sized african rock pythons swallow large impala along with the horns and all is a feat that i do not believe we will we any retics matching anytime soon.....the abundance of sources that show afrocks eating impressivly sized meals in there natural habitats and captivity for that matter with no hoaxes and/or set ups show how often and easily they are capable of eating like this .....show me a retic eating something over one hundred pounds in capitivity or the wild for some good proof .....sorry but a couple "human legs" hanging out of a dead pythons body proves very little in actuality to me

They had a small blurb in reptiles mag that said those pics are BS. Don't believe the hype.

What do you mean with "BS" Tim (or Julie)?

It means they are not true. It is an English term for swear words.

BS is an abreviation for "bull s--t". basically it just means that the pictures are fake.

Thanks for explaining that!

I have noticed that in the spots I've marked with yellow circles, the spots have much more light than those in red circles. Which makes me think that the afrock and the gazelle are two different pics. What do you think?

that pic seems real to me .. i think its simply that the scles reflect the light and not the fur.. It seems like a perfect picture.. its really clear and all .. I think its true.. It might not be..

Look at the size of the rock head though . he would have no problem swallowing that ..

But, what if the python photo is resized to a bigger size to resamble that one of Impala?

I'm pretty sure Tim and/or Julie B meant the pictures that JimmyDavid posted a link to were BS not the other ones

its a hard call .. u can't really know if its true or not.. all I can say is it looks impressive..

Stupid computeres ruined the autheticity of it all

I think THE STORY behind the pics is fake, but i truly believe the photos. In fact, i used to have a pic (that i'll look around for) taken from the net showing some explorer next to a retic with a lump LARGER than the one in the truck. I think the photo of the rock is probably true, also.
The way retics and rocks dislocate their jaws to eat large items is incredible, but, now that i think of it, the true king on that subject is the egg-eater.;)
Take care, people.

Hate to tell you Jimmy, but the pics are B.S. .

The Afrock ones are real. Mark O'Shea high lights them in one of his books so I'm guessing that's a good indication they're authentic. Very impressive pics.

Those are Afrocks and they can eat meals that large! I have a nature video of one eating a small antelope all the first one looks fishy but the others look right! He he he can't wait till I have to order antelope for mine muhahahahahahaha

Wait a minute dr. Antfarm. Nothing written in that link proves that the pics are fake. Once again, some sources believe THE STORY is fake, wich i do too. (The snake is a retic, so the Venezuela version is laughable). I even doubt the connection of that sequence of pics. But the pic of the snake in the truck, wich is strictly the one i care about, could very well be for real. Where is it proven otherwise?

Ya I didn't read through the whole thing. But I seriously doubt that the pic is legit. I've seen some big *** lumps in snakes, but that one is just abit too unreal. It looks like a friggin sausage link. I don't buy it.

I first saw those sequence of photos on midwest's website. Didn't buy it then either.

oh good grief! whether you think they are real or fake, they are all cool pics. As has been pointed out, Afican rocks DO eat huge prey- even if those few pictures were total photoshop creations.

Also- glares on pics don't make them fake, people can turn up and down the brightness and color and adjust every thing so they may just show up more than they would in an unadjusted image. A lot of people monkey with those settings on legitimate pics.

Either way- cool pics, and id hate to be one of those gazelles, or whatever they are ;)

I got that video which Ryan was talking about on my pc. Its just that its 22.5 mb large and if i upload that and alot if people will watch it, my provider will start acting crazy. Can only have 5 gig of data transport (?) on my account...............so if anyone knows how to make it smaller, please tell :D
Its really impressive

The afroretic meal is real. He/she is eating a young springback. I verified myself. One friend has the video. I'll try to bring the link here;)
