I thought if I paired these two up I stood a good chance of getting either some anerys or some amels.

Well if the normal is het for anything it isn't either of those I guess because what hatched out was twelve virtual replicas of this snake.

That picture is the only one I managed to take that didn't blur. They all seem to leap out of the containers as soon as the lid comes off. There like tiny eels. lol!

still so cute! Looks nice and plump, like it just ate? Do they look like that out of the egg?

Normals are great - I was amazed with the variation in the clutch of normals we hatched last year. They looked identical as hatchlings and the amount of variation among them at 6 months is unreal. Several went to friends, so I get to follow their progress and the two I kept back are completely different from each other. Also a nice test breeding - at least you know what your male is not het for!

Sapphire,
Yup, that's what they look like coming out of the egg, that one is only a couple of hours out of the egg when the picture was taken. I guess the bulge is just the remainder of what mommy left for them in the eggs. lol!
Mary,
I figured that there is always a good chance that a normal will be harbouring a recessive trait and reasoned that by breeding him to the snow I would be testing for two genes in one go.
The crazy thing about corns is that there are so many traits floating around out there it's hard to believe that any "pure" normals exist in captive populations. All I can be sure about here is that he's not carrying these two particular traits, who knows about any others?
Can't say that about Ball pythons or BCI's unfortunately, though some might argue that's a good thing. Personally I wouldn't be upset if I ended up getting stuck with some albino boas or saddled with a piebald BP. lol!

No kidding! lol.....still little cuties.
Then again, the genetic ratios might not have gone your way in a clutch of only 12. He still might be hiding something ;)
Very cute snake though. I like how dark the baby is.

Marisa,
Now that you mention it I think you're right, don't you need at least 16 to be at least statistically certain? I'm bloody useless without the squares laid out in front of me or better yet Mick's Predictor. lol! Must download that again...
Thanks for the kind words everyone, I'm beyond happy producing any snakes since this is our first go at it. I was worried I'd be incubating nothing but mold. lol!

Tricked this guy into posing by giving him some water.

Then he turned to me and told me where I could put my stupid Q-tip and demanded a cigarette.

The other eleven will probably be for sale but I'm keeping the one that smokes and swears. His name is Larry.

That little one is fiesty....I have a few clutches already and non of them did that to me...most of them were just jumpy from egg and then once they get a few meals down they start to get fiesty like yours~~

Simon,
It looks like he could be angry with me, I thought it looked more like he was trying to say something, actually he's just swallowing water. They're all quite busy little things but none are particularly nasty, just skittish and defensive to different degrees. And yeah, het for lavender would be a surprise I could live with! lol!
Heather,
Funny you should mention that, Larry's got a brother named Carl. lol!

Can you tell me where I might be able to find Mick's Predictor to download? Thanks!

Mick's progeny predictor can be downloaded from
http://home.comcast.net/~spencer62/cornprog.html
It is an essential - the easiest to use and fun to do all the possible combinations. Make sure to follow his instructions - there are some essential components that you may have to get in order for it to run, but it is easy to install.
