Ok my friend wants to know what this thing is but I havent got a clue. Looks like some type of larvae to me, maybe a beetle but does anyone have any ideas? They found it in their garden and they live in Ontario. It's about 1 1/2 inches long and like as big around as a pencil. And apparently it likes to pinch with those black things on its head.

It's a June bug, or Japanese beetle larva. They eat the roots of grass and other plants. Considered a pest insect.
They should use it as fish bait, or feed it to something. <lol>

LOL, Siretsap is right,
Those things are pretty stupid...well...they seem to be more clumsy than stupid as they tend to always fly into a wall all the time, the beetles seem like good monitor food though.
Thanks,

June beetle larvae will destroy a lawn in just a cople of weeks if there's a good sized colony of them.
It starts out as a patch of brown grass about a foot wide and soon you have a huge circle of death as the little buggers wreak havoc.
Down with june bugs.

Yeah, its a june bug alright. But technically speaking, there are more than 100 different species of these bugs and they all more or less look the same except for their genitalia...so it hard to tell you what species it is...but the family is Scarabidae. i just love bugs...
