Is it bad or not recommended to take a leopard gecko or almost any gecko outside even on a nice day. My reasoning to think not is because they are noturnal and it would probably hurt their eyes, no?
Just a thought, figured someone might know.
i'm not sure about the eye thing, this may sound silly but what about cats or birds both have excellent vision and speed. I had a friend who always took his leo out in the summer to run around in grass, he seemed to love it and when given the chance, man can they run, thats when i'd be afraid of cats or birds( falcons or hawks or something)
i don't think it would hurt there eyes ... i would be worried what pesticides or other infections they might get from outside, as well as the bird thing dave mentioned

Why not make your leo a giant box to run around in outside. The sun is very benefical to them. About the sun hurting their eyes. They would have to be exposed to it at extremes for a long period of time.
good point little dragon, just make them a box ro run around in, might try that this summer

I was just talking about taking him outside just on my hand or something..take some pictures :) But thats a good point..i could make a outside home for him to get some good uv.
So you guys think they wouldnt mind the light?
Another thing with the box idea, just make sure there is a little spot to get some shade/shelter, other than that yeah, I think all living things benefit from the outdoors.

i have heard from some people and some vets that leo geckos can really benifit from the UV rays, although its not a requirement i have heard it can help them.

Ive heard that because they are nocturnal and dont see the sun usually anyways but since you have to supplement d3 then the sun would just be a more natural way for them to get it. Im gonna do it, if the weather turns up!
I take my girls outside, all four of them. I believe it adds to the quality of their life, and I never leave them unattended in my backyard. I usually let them hang out for an hour or so every week. I have not seen any ill effects from it. I always make sure they can get into shade (usually me) if they want. This is a great thing for geckos, let them indulge!

I've heard from several people who take theirs outside and I'll be trying some of mine this summer. Just be sure to stay with them so they can't get away... or become a snack for some predator (bird, cat...).
