do leo's eat earth worms ?, cos i have found a few nice fat ones, and wondered if he would actually eat it, i could then use them as "treats"

I have never heard of leo's eating any kinds of earthworms. However, for herps that do eat them (turtles, blue tongued skinks, etc.), they can be used as a staple food as opposed to treats. They are very good nutritionally.
i have never heard of leo's eating worms either, and make sure they weren't found on the road or anywhere that would have been sprayed or anything like that as they could be toxic

my leo's i had got them on occasion and would take them quite happily. My beardies also get them fairly often I figure they are probably healthier than crickets and my wife (non-herper) likes the fact that they don't chirp, they are also much cheaper.Just make sure you put them on something so they don't get the substrate all over there slimy bodies. Also try grasshoppers with the back legs broken off they love them to.
thanx for the info varanus, i will have to try that one day and see what my leo thinks

I wouldn't give leo wild caught worms/grass hopper...
too much pesticide/insecticide... would intoxicate them.

Agreed, if you want to try earthworms...maybe grab some from a bait and tackle shop. I would have loved to use grasshopers but they seem to dangerous.
that's what i was planning on doing is getting them from a bait shop or something like that, i would never feed anything from outside to my leo's

To be honest, I'd rather feed some from my yard - I know I don't use chemicals there. Bait shops get their worms from worm pickers, who are not particular about where they collect - it could be from the grass around a chemical producing factory, they don't care. The worms are meant for bait, so who cares? The fish isn't going to live after gabbing it anyways.
I've used wild caught insects for my pets and breeders. I collect in a safe area, far from possible contaminants. As long as the insect eating wildlife is abundant and healthy, it's a good chance they're safe to use. I also know of 2 organic farms where I can collect, that's probably the best place for me to go. Since worms don't travel far from home, you could go to a wooded area and collect them there, as long as nobody has sprayed for mosquitos ( West Nile ) or any other bugs they're trying to exterminate around the area. Check to make sure the plant life looks healthy (no herbicides) and the insect life is enough to drive you up the wall (no insecticides), and collect your bugs and worms.
Also, if you use wild food, you really have to get fecals done at the end of the summer, when the wild food season is over, or sooner if you suspect something.

You guys should all ask yourselves what do leo's eat in the wild?
I dubt they eat domestic crickets and mealworms. They'll eat anything that moves that can be swallow down in order to survive. I know for a fact the adults eat scorpians. I read it in an article and thought I would but it to the test. A lady at a pet shop gave me a dead scorpian so I experimented and put it in my leo tank. My leo waved its tail and quickly grabed it by the tail and shock it until it ripped off. It did the same thing with the pinchers and then it gobbled up the body.

Yea thats how i used to think but think logically. In the wild their shouldnt be any chemicals. And if they are using chemicals thats why populations of animals are going down. They do eat all kinds of things in the wild, your absolutly right, but they wont have human created pecticides.

They are more likely to eat mealworm and cricket -type insects in the wild than earthworms and other bugs that live in more lush environments...
