hey everyone, i have a moist hide in my leo cage and was just wondering if i could put perlite in there instead of the paper towel i have right now? my gecko's seem to like to sleep in there (well actually just the ones we think are pregnant) and i'm starting to think that they don't want to lay their eggs on the paper towel......i'm going to switch it to forest bed/bed-a-beast tonight for the time being (untill i find out if i can use the perlite)

thnx,
sheldon

Perlite in the laying box could lead to impaction. Use something like Beth uses, or peatmoss, sphagnum moss or paper towels. I've even seen a hide box with gravel (pea gravel or slightly smaller, not the find grade aquarium gravel, too big to swallow). Personally, I don't like the idea of gravel in there, it's too hard to keep clean, dirt can settle between the stones.

I use perlite and unless your feeding your geckos in the box or they are eating out of there bum then you wont have a problem.
