View Full Version : How's this for a temp enclosure?

I am still working on her enclosure, plus I think she enjoys the security of a smaller one for now....the finished enclosure is easily 4-5 times as big as this.

It is plain, newspaper, waterbowl, and hide. She LOVES her hide. It fits her nice and compactly. She was able to take a 49g rat and constrict then eat it in that hide ( which is like a butter dish size )

Is there anything you would change?

The hide doesn't really look like a "hide" though. I thought the idea was that they could hide away, but she looks like she is in plain sight and doesn't really have anywhere she can hide away. For hides I use opaque containers and turn them upside down so that they have something on top of them as well.

i beleive she took the lid off to take pictures...anyways beautiful snake and as long as the hide is covered it lokks good.

Yep, Crazyboy is right, There's a lid on the hide. But since it's solid, its hard to take pics thru it ;)

Ok. But I still think they prefer hides that allow them to feel completely unseen. I don't use transparent dishes as hides because you can see through the sides and I don't think that offers them as much privacy as a hide that is completely opaque. An opaque hide will also create a darker hide, and I think they prefer that too. I even turn the hides so that the entrance hole is away from the front of the tub, so that they can hide without feeling like I am able to peek in on them all the time.

Too true Auskan. A Hog Island Boa's eyes are not on top of its head like a flounder! It sees sssssideways. Solid all the way around is best.

But those transparent ones still work. Many people use them. But the question was, which is better................I'd say solid.

If you look at the pic, you will see the plain brown paper lining the hide. There is another sheet that goes over the top and is held via the lid, so yes, she is unseen except for when I peer into the entry hole, or open it up to take pics :)
