Are there any Viperina breeders in Canada?
I'm surprised they aren't suggested to people looking for venomoids, although I guess someone wanting a venomoid wouldn't be interested in a snake that is natually harmless because it's not "cool".

I don't have the taxonomical name here, since my book's at home, but it's a mimic of vipers in appearance and defensive posture. Totally harmless though.
Beautiful creatures without the risk of a hot or the cruelty of making a venomoid :)

There are various snakes that look like vipers. You can find this mimickry-relationship between Xenodon spp. and Bothrops spp., Dasypeltis spp. and Causus spp. or Echis spp. and between others.
But their are also some snakes that show kind of convergence in body forms but lacking a venomous idol e.g. Candoia aspera, Trachyboa boulengeri or Pseustes sp.
So we can't tell you what species you are looking...
Maybee yu can get its name.

Natrix maura is mimic for a Vipera latasti gaditana. Occurs is south Spain. A friend of mine did a research about those two species last year. But N. maura is very common compared to V.l.gaditana. You might find a 100 N. maura to 1 V.l.gaditana .
Ps. Please use scientific names

Atheris: as i said, I'd post the taxonomical name when I got home.
So now I'm home. Crotalus is right, it's Natrix Maura.
Not poisonous, but it excretes on you when handled. Ick.
