Looking into racks pls help

Hi Guys and Gals,

I’m quickly realizing that my snake room is filling up fast and that I may not be using the space to its absolute fullest. I think it is time for racks. I was thinking about stackable cages but I think that racks will be cheaper and easier to build and every bit as functional. So I’m looking for ideas and suggestions for what you know that works or does not work. Any and all design ideas and most important of all heating ideas will help. I have ideas in mind for design and heating but I’m not opposed to doing what someone else knows works well already. I’m not trying to re-invent the wheel I’m sure there are tried and tested designs out there already. All input is appreciated.

Well I guess first you need to decided if you want a professional rack system or if you want to build your own.

You could probably get some good idea from pro racks too.

Flexwatt all the way for heating. Its cheap. I use it for almost all of my heating needs.

Its all a matter of what suits you best.. Just gotta remember whats safe for your animal. Not all woods are safe some are toxic. thats the most important thing is you built it out of the right material.

I would suggest a melamine rack, drawers slide out easy and its durable even for high humidity snakies :)

Material: I was intending on doing ALL my racks in melamine and the stackable plastic caging for the lager animals, but now I am rehtinking that plan. I am now going with plastic racks on the bottom as well. Melamine chips easily, splits easily, is unbelieveably heavy (3 people can barely move mine), and I can barely breathe in the same room as it.

Design: I am pleased with the design, there is a goove along the bottom of the shelves which the heat tape sits nicely in and it has slots on the side where the heat tape is woven in and out of each shelf.

I'm making my own...er...having someone else make me plastic racks. Hehehe...I don't have the tools or knowledge to work with plastics :rolleyes:. What is normal Canadian heat tape? Heat tape isn't available in Canada. This is flexwatt that came up from none other than The Bean Farm :)
