Sorry for the bad pic he is in a temp tank right now and likes to hide. I will post better pics of him when he adjusts a bit better

How are they to care for? I read an article on them in Reptiles recently, it said they mainly eat arthropods like crabs. Very nice btw, I've always really liked Dums. Congrats!

Thanks for the nice words

Nice dumeril's. Remember to give him a thick substrate of dirt and leaves (oak leaves are best as they last a long time). You can make a real nice mix by mixing topsoil, sphagnum moss and leaves. Also provide lots of flat peices of cork or boards for him to hide under - remember they need lots of security to do well. Rodents are by far the best choice of food - you really don't need to feed him anything else - though you can add some raw ground turkey to help bulk out his diet if cost is a major concern - but remember mice and rats are by far the best foods - make sure he has a range of basking spots topping off at about 130-150 degrees. And no screen tops as it will allow all humitidy to escape - they need very high humidity. good luck with him.

I have always wanted a dumeril monitor, is it true they have the best temperment out of the monitors? Also if you have a mesh screen at the top and the squares are little you can spray the screen and the water drops will trap in the humidity.

Unless you want to spend all day every day spraying those little droplets back on, I'd skip the screen top. Any cage with an adequate basking spot will evaporate those little droplets in no time so you'd have to give up your day job :)
The little droplets will not hold the warmth in, either. Not meaning to sound nasty, I just think screen tops are bad for monitors.

Where did you get your Dummeril? I have been interested in getting one for awhile. How is his temperment?
Thx

I just love the Dumeril's monitor~! They have the greatest head color as hatchlings! :) I've grown to love their adult color as well.

nice!
i dont know about a pure mouse diet as recommended above.
new literature is coming out saying most monitors should have a variety of foods to be healthy. a pure mouse diet can lead to obesity and fatty liver problems.
something my poor savannah dealt with before she passed on.
