Hey guys!

Can you name me a few that females do before laying? and include how much time before laying they do it. (this question is to breeders who have experience...)

thanks!

they start to get big (duh) then they start trying to dig if you have sand then try to put in a digging site or she might dig in the sand and get it in her eyes which can cause infection. then she lays. I would recamend that you leave them for 24 hours so that they can stifen up a bit if your worried about the eggs being squished or damged just take out the lay box until you take the eggs out. after you take em out cook em and in a little over a month youl have males or in a little over two months youll have females.

My female did a lot of roaming. I never did see her digging, before I found the eggs this morning. But she would roam around the tank all night long, did it for several days before she laid.
Perfectly good egg box, which she used...I think she just wanted to make sure it was THE best place, so she was looking for other possible options. :)

my female was sleeping for days and now she started to walk all over her tank... I think she'll lay soon :D

thats how mine tested for her egg site she would dig in the corner then in the middle then she would finnaly find the lay box and for the last couple of days she made a HUGE mess in the lay box (not in the rest of the tank)

Females tend to stop eating around 7 days before laying, some females even longer, while some females eat right through to the day of laying, most of them stop eating however. They will also be inactive and rest a lot. They will require fresh water daily as well as a dish of calcium to help gain calcium back from laying those eggs.
Some go into shed around 7 days before they lay. They will also dig a lot a couple days before laying as well, getting ready to lay their eggs in their preferred spot.
Hope this helped,
-Sam

In my collonies I find my females are all different. Differnt habbits and different personalities. Some will dig so vigorously that there will be peet moss all over the tank, others will just make little mounds in the hides and no dirt will escape. Most of my females are rather active before laying and eat little to none, but I do have a couple females that eat like pigs right up to the day they lay. I have had females lay anywhere from 14-28 days apart. Some new layers have laid in there moist hide instead of their lay box but this has only happened a couple times. For the most part they are pretty smart girls and know what they are doing. Good luck with her, hope she gives you some fertile eggs. ;)
