first of all dont handle large retics or burms by yourself or at least within earshot of some one who know what to do in case of emergency,
make your movements slow and deliberate use a hook to gentley touch the snake to make sure its awake, if you startle it it could be a big mistake ( despite the size retics are extremely fast) when you know its awake and not showing any aggression then slowly pic it up about a quarter of the way back, dont let the snake point directly at your face, hands,or feet, other than that its much like handling other snakes if you keep alert and dont let your guard down.

good luck and have fun!

an 8ft snake that goes above 50lbs should never be handled unless there are at least 2 adults within hearing range

I was always told you want one adult for every 6 feet in length

This is about as close to Bob's Retic as I feel safe getting. I sent this fake pic to my Mom and she nearly died! She called and screamed into the phone "Now you have crossed the line! I told you not to ever wrap yourself in those big snakes! I hope it swallows you!" and hung up on me. Love you too Momma. LOL

Sean can you tell me a bit more about this reptile rescue in Virginia, I'd definitely be interested in helping them out with some of the smaller boids and I know some guys down here who would be very interested as well.

Enjoyed the pics at your site!

Thanks
Tay

My first memory of snakes was when I was a kid in Elementary school. Myself and 11 others were asked to get onstage and they began to to lay this snake across our arms. I could be over exagerating, but I remember the diameter of the snake being as round as a basketball! The foot length I held in my arms about wanted to fall through my arms. It was the COOLEST thing I remember from then other then playing and singing in the musical Texas our Texas but that is a different sad topic! hehe
