View Full Version : head sores
I just found these sores on my female gecko. She just finnished shedding so i'm not sure if this could be caused by the lack of humidity. She's housed w/ another male gecko of the same age and i've never seen them fight or anything. If anyone has any thoughts on any other reason this could happen, please let me know

i just finished reading that the males bite at the necks of the female when they want to mate. Your female has a sore on her neck so...
could be!

yeah maybe, i've never seen it before and they've been together for awhile. She just recently laid an egg. The sores are pretty close to the ear openings. And she them on both sides in the same location. It's weird.

That is pretty much where the males latch onto while copulating with the females....... I would not worry about it...... It should be gone in the next couple of sheds......

I also think it's from the boy, just keep the area nice and clean you can put some polysporin on it that will help speed up the process. I would keep them separated until the mating wounds heal though.

yes clean it and put some polysporin on it like Drewlowe said. it should heal up pretty soon.

My guy sustained a huge injury from a cat..big cut near his leg under his belly...in one shed it was gone and now theres a little scar. The polysporin really helped, i put it on like once every couple days..three or four.

Thanks for your replies everyone. I totally forgot that the males nibbled on the females. I always wondered if they were "doing it" and now i guess it seems i have proof! lol! Thanks again!

To tell you guys the truth, I never use any type of ointment when a reptile was injured...... You would be suprized how well reptiles heel up...... I only used an ointment in one case where on of my male gaboons was bitten by a female........ The bite was inside the mouth....... Talk about a scary situation......LOL...... Plus it was a puncture wound, not a suface wound........ All you need to do is make sure the cage is clean and there should be no problems...... Look at it this way, there is no one to put ointment on them in the wild.........
