Hi, i'm gonna be getting another leopard gecko this weekend. I have one right now and was wondering if i need to get another cave or if they will both use the same one. the cave right now looks big enough to fit 2 of them, and the tank is pretty big (its 5 stinkin feet long)
so i was just wondering if i need to get another seperate cave for the new leo.

thanks

Well how many caves do you have in the cage! ANd how many leos in that 5ft long cage? That is very big for leos....depending on how many you have in there. Id say in a cage that big for leos you would need multiple hides/caves.

I agree - like 10 or so! That's a big tank! If you puts lots of hiding places, your leos can choose the one that is the best temperature for them. I have 3 leos in a 35g. There are 4 hiding spots on the warm side (2 dry, 2 humid) and 2 on the cool side.

it should have at least 2 per leo. but in that size cage i think i'd put more. also make sure you dont have 2 males as they will fight until one dies. and i would make sure that if 1 is male and 1 is female that they are both of breeding age just incase, you know, he gets a little excited:-)

What about proper quarentine???? Are you going to bring this leo home and just place it with the rest???

Before placing another leo in the same cage you should at least quarentine it for at least 30 days and have a fecal done to ensure no parasites. Plus it give this one time to adjust to your schedule of feeding and lighting before being placed with a new friend, along with you watching it's habits for that time.

I suggest at least one hide per gecko even if they share the same hide, it gives them an option to go someplace else and still feel secure. You could fit more than 2 in there but remember 1 male for the whole cage and proper quartine before placing them in an established colony.

I want to get something kinda like a jungle, or just something that looks real cool thats not that much. i'll be getting it from an expo in az on saturday. also any suggestions on what type of leo i should get would be cool.
thanks.

also, how long is an 8 month old leo usually?
how much do they usually weigh too?

Hey Mike,

An 8 month old leo should be pretty close to full size. Maybe not as filled out as an adult, but close to full length. (Usually ~7-10")

If you are looking for a reasonably priced leo that looks cool, you have quite a few options. Albinos (tremper and rainwater lines) are getting pretty cheap and can probably be bought for
about $50 (US) at a show. Patternless and jungle are also very common and inexpensive.
