Would is be alright if I bought a big rubbermaid, about 40 gallons, and used that as a tank instead of buying a big expensive glass tank? I would have all the essentials, the only thing that would be different is the tank. Thanks.

you mean for a corn? If it is an adult then I don't think there is any problem with it. Even if it is a baby it shouldn't be to hard to find a small rubbermaid.
If you want this place is supposed to be good, www.reptiletubs.com
When we build our rack we are going to go with the big tubs (ve-175) but they have small tubs there, for a pretty good price,

Alright, Thanks Sapphire. I'll look into that site, along with other sites for reptile tubs. Thanks.:)

As long as all the basic requirements are met, your snake could care less what it lives in. Looks are only important to the keeper. As long as the snake has what it requires it could care less whether its an expensive terrarium, with fancy hides & dishes OR a rubbermaid, old KD boxes & margerine containers etc. Mark

I checked out that site and I'm wondering if there's actually something special or convenient about those totes than a regular rubbermaid...I have not used rubbermaids in the past, but as my collection grows I'm going to start

There aren't a lot of advanyages to the "reptile tubs" other than online ordering (minus shipping charges) and they have extremely large ones you can't get anywhere else. They still don't come with ventilation holes (which is understandible) and you can do it cheaper with sterilite tubs you can get at wal-mart. As mentioned above, the snakes don't care as long as all the husbandry needs are met.

Well the large ve-175 boxes are special, you can't find them hardly anywhere. And the ve-175's are 4ft long, which you can use for larger snakes, and they all come with locking lids.
Plus they have the clear ones to.
Sterilite lids suck, they pop open way to easily.

I personally hate rubbermaids for adult corns. When they poop, it just traps the smell in and lets it build up and build up, and then when you open the lid, you almost hurl from the overpowering stench. I did have my corns in rubbermaids, and I moved them all into custom enclosures and glass tanks for this very reason. But if you have a lot of them, and are willing to spend the time on cleaning and de-stinking, rubbermaids are great.

What sort of substrate do you use? (If that's responsible for reducing the stink, I'd like to know what it is. :)
I have found that on Aspen there is virtually no smell at all. It seems to contain it very well.
