sorry if this is a stupid question, but after reading the garter snake thread in the other forum and someone suggesting that garter snakes burrow to escape heat and realizing that corns also burrow, I was wondering if it is recommended to put corns on a UTH or to just use a piece of slate and a light bulb to heat up the slate for the snake to bask on

please offer any insight to this that you can

thanks in advance

It really depends on your set up and how many corns you got? For just one snake use both have the UTH under one side and have a bulb over it to make a hot end a cool end, That way your corn can thermoregulate. Then at night just turn off the light at night so that there is still heat. For me I use UTH all the time becuse my corns are in a rack system and it is very hard to use bulbs.

I use a UTH with a lamp dimmer to control the heat. And a lamp set far enough away that it can't up the temps since it is only for the daytime/nightime cycle.

this is latazyo posting on jjnnbns's account

I used to use both the lamp and the UTH (on a dimmer) and the light raised the temp 20 degrees, it was 105 degrees which I know is way too hot...so I dumped the light...I am just going to use a fluorescent light for light and the UTH for heat...the reason I ask is because I'm making a new enclosure and was wondering about heat
