is that an egg in the making
More or less yes. Folicules develop when condition are met, ie, temp cycling, fat stores are high enough etc. With out proper cycling there are fewer, sometimes no follicules that develop therefore people will say, "Well they mated but she didn't take." One of the reasons she didn't take is because the sperm, assuming it's viable didn't have anything to take to.
Folicules develop inside the ovaries.
Make any sense?

Thanx guys!
Scott, you suck, go build your damn incubator! :p
Foman, it is the avatar Jungle, yes. I tried her last year, but she was only 18 months and I didn't push it. I did a couple matings and if she took, she took, I didn't press it. Not this year, ha ha. I was determined to get eggies from her!
Snakehunter, no, its not like humans. Not at all. Human females ovulate every 28 days, on the dot (so to speak.....:p ). Snakes don't. The are never in "heat" and they aren't really receptive, nor do thay have a menstral cycle. Carpets get clues (hormonal, seasonal, mechanical/physical) during the spring months that cause the females to build follicles. The act of mating and the increase in food and temperatures cause them to ovulate (the act of fertilization and the movement of the "eggs" into the oviduct) and thus produce eggs. Nothing like humans at all.

Man, they are awesome, hope she lays a big one for you. Are they of the same line? They look fairly similar. Jeff how long and heavy roughly was she when she was bred to.

Hey Mark, I don't weight the Carpets (actually, the only snakes I weigh are Ball Pythons that I'm going to sell. Everything else is eye-balled), so I can't tell ya man! She's around 5-5.5 feet long and THICK. 30 months old, and they are not related in any way that I could find out. I'm sure only a handful of Jungles made it legally into North America, so I would assume that virtually all the JCP's are somewhat related soo.....
If the babies come out wide-banded, I'm keeping back a male to replace the Dad pictured above. Obviously he'd have to be better, and it would be a judgement call. I hope I don't screw that up, LOL!!
Thanx Mark! :D
