well, I just brought home my frist snake, a corn snake (no special morph, just the standard corn), and I'm pumped, it's beautiful

I'll post pics later on tonight, I'm gonna let him chill for a little while first and get used to his new environment

oh, it's just reptile carpet stuff from Petco, it's pretty soft compared to turf

Is the lamp the only source of heat? What are your temps?

Congrats, I can't wait to see it!

UTH, I have the probe of the heater taped to the glass under the carpet, it is currently 90.7 F

the left side of the tank is currently 78.6 F, it will be around 68 at night on the cold side, but the right side of the tank with the UTH will be about 90 F consistently

the light looks better than fluorescent did in this application and managed to raise the ambient air temp in the enclosure from 68 to 78 over the course of the day thus far, it is a 75w soft white bulb used 98% for light and 2% for heat

IMHO I think corns are supposed to be at around 85 hot side and 70-75 cool side. But everyone has their opinons.

yeah Brent, I already caught him kickin' it on the UPPER TRIM of the tank, which is creepy, so as soon as you are available, I'm gonna solicit your help in building a more secure enclosure with some glass doors

Very nice little corn - great colors. They really are escape artists and the top rim of aquariums is a favorite plaee for them to cruise around. Amazing how they can climb up the corner of a tank! A secure enclosure is really essential.

Congrats on the new corn - won't be long before you have another one!

That is a beautiful corn snake, and by the looks of that setup, you've been doing your homework. Good luck.

due to the uncomfortable feeling he left me with yesterday, I'm building him a 4' enclosure this weekend already....live and learn I guess, hehe
