heat pads

hey everyone

I need some help regarding heat pads.

I have 5 leopard geckos and use heat lamps to provide heat for them. They are quite a hassel becasue you have to buy lamps and bulbs for them and they can be quite costly. The problem with heat pads is my father wont let me use them becasue he thinks that they will catch on fire because they are being left on all the time.

What i need from you guys is some type of information that ican show him prooving how good heat pads are and that they will not catch on fire.

I will be building a rack soon and i dont want to have to buy a whole bunch of heat lamps, instead i would buy i big heat pad and put it under two rubbermaids.

just take him with you to the pet store when you buy them. besides just tell him that they aren't digesting properly because they need belly heat. Anyway top argument, heat pads use less electricity than a bulb... so.... and also, it is on glass...

Remember that you need an air space between the heat pad and the surface it is lying on, (they come with doo-dads to put on the base of the enclosure to elevate it slightly) so as long as you have that air space (and point out what a low wattage device it is), it is safe.

Has anyones got caught on fire??? the pet store near my has heat pads running across a shelf, and theyleave it on 24/7 and has never had a problem. You can even call the company(ask id its safe t leave it on 24/7)....and when they make stuff they have to pass a safety test, most things do......

Yes i am allowed to get the heat pads now because he thought I meant human heat pads. Now he wont let me have them unless they are CSA approved.... does anyone know if they are?

Please help me i really want them!

undertank heaters are CSA approved. it says so on the package.. well the ones from Zoomed anyway are.

The ones at my local petstore just say CE on them

CE is the same thing...it is approved to be sold in stores and therefore had to have passed fire safety tests.. your dad should know this. besides like I said they pump out less energy than a 60 watt bulb. and cost MUCH less to use.

What about the ZOO meds heat pads, they are CSA approved are they any good?

lol ha ha, ya if its got CSA, CE, stuff like that its approved, a lot of things in stores are approved, and i bet a 60 watt light bulb, would likly start a fire, then a heat pad
