Ok, ok, how do you get a 5 ft tank for $40. And how do you get a 3 ft one for free? (Obviously I'm shopping at the wrong places :) )

well I got the 5 ft and a 6 ft ($60) CANADIAN from my uncle, they were floor samples... he works at Hagen (hee hee) the 3 ft tank was from a friend who wasn't using it and probably won't ever for awhile... :)

Hi,

Tanks look good, although not my cup of tea.

Not to rain on your parade... however i would like to bring your attention that having a "open" lamp fixture can/may lead to the snake coiling around it, and before the snakes nerves tell it that it is to warm, its much to late. At best will have a badly burnt up snake.

Cheers
Brian

I will be putting wire mesh over the lamp. right now we are always in the room when it is on anyway, and she hasn't once tried to get to it, and even if she did, well she has nothing to support her upwards 'travel'. The lamp is smack in the middle. (not that this means she will never try) but we are there, as she is in the living room, so we see her all the time if she is out. once the mesh is up, well it will be better.

Dark Angel:
Is that tile on one side of the leo's and crestie's tank? If so why? I am a new leo owner and wondered if it helped in there care or if it was just for looks?

it is ceramic tile. I use it because of the following:
1) VERY easy to clean, just pick up poop with kleenex and wipe
2) hold the heat well and disperses it evenly, so both Leos's get the 'optimum heat spot'
3) looks nice
4) Crickets cannot hide under them like the can papertowel and substrate
5) no chance of them ingesting it when they eat
6) It is the safest one you can use, AND it is cheap.

I would HIGHLY recommend it for all Gecko owners.... :D hope this helped!

Just to come back on the open lamp topic *I know I am a pain*

If I were you I woould not go thrue all the trouble to put some whire mesh arond the enternce od the fixture or where ever you wanted to put it.

you know on the inside of the top of the tank (the black thing)
there is a small lip all the way around messure the diamater of the lip and get a melimine bord cut to the size needed the take a skill saw cut a retangle in the bord place some steal screaning (the plastic one could melt under extream heat) take some
1 inch or 1/2 inch wood staples (for a staple gun) then just get a some molding ( the stuff that is around the doors in your house or another name is bass bords) and make a border around the hole do the same thing on bothe sides.

then just add some handles so you can lift the cover properly the reason for a rectangle and not just a small hole is that if you do it like that you also have some ventelation in your cage but the closed parts of the cover will help keep humidity.

when all is said and done put your new cover on and toss the light on top problem solved.

Also the fact that they have no leverage to get to the lamp is not realy acurate you would be amazed how hard they try to get some where when they are dead set to be there.

I prefer "Persistance of Memory" as a lid myself.
Although my favorite title for a Dali is "Dali at the age of Six, when he thought he was a Girl, Lifting the skin of the Water to see a Dog Sleeping in the Shade of the Sea"
