I got a tegu in july but he escaped and was lost untill october so he is kinda small but i don't know what type it is. Is it a columbian or and argintianien (sp). I also have a couple of questions.
What to feed my guy. He is 21" lond and doing quite well but do i still feed him crickets he will eat as many as you give him so i don't know.
How big do those guys get?
Do any of you have a pictuer of an adult. I have two others but they are just babies.
I will get a pic tommorow for you to tell me what kind of tegu it is. I think columbian.
Thanks for your time

id say lots of bugs
crix n worms...try pinkies too
An argentenian will reach 4.5 feet, and I THINK Columbians reach 3-4. As for telling what ytype of tegu it is, there are many sites that can be found in google that would probably tell you. I think it has something to do with the markings.

Dude you didnt search what they ate before getting one? Helloooooo?!?!?!?!?! Basically, crikets(staple for now), superworms, waxworms(occasionally), eggs, silkworms, butterworms, hornworms. Notice that i didnt put mealworms because they have a thicker exoskeleton than all other worms and they have less nutritional value. You can feed them those though.
Chris
Actually, they require alot of protein as juviniles, and work up to a very varied diet as adults, requiring lots of fruit.
So for now, crickets, ground turkey diet skip the eggs though. You may want to really load up on protien for a bit considering hes been missing for so long.

I just thought the eggs would be could cause they have low fat and protein right? Thanks. I guess i am more of a monitor than tegu guy! LOL.
Chris
Eggs are alright, but theres much easier ways to give protien to a reptile without using eggs. Its a "treat" not really something that should be in the diet constantly. Sorry, I didnt mean to correct you, iam sure alot of people use eggs, I just dont think its really healthy to be in the diet regularly :)

He eats pinkie mice ,gold fish, egg, crickets. He has never eaten turkey or anything like that. I got him from a crack head for free all he wanted was a lighter. It just kinda happened. the rest of mine eat a high quality tegu food my friend makes up and i just buy from him plus bugs
Do columbians eat fruit?
