My Normal corn snake woody hasnt shed in about 12 weeks and i'm starting to get a bit worried because if he isnt shedding doesnt that mean he isnt growing ? should i get him a larger vivarium becuase he is about7/8 months old and is still in the vivarium he has had from hatchling which measures:14 inches long,9 high and 9 1/2 inches wide.he is about 17 inches long(43 cm)

Sounds like a while to go between sheds for such a young snake. Getting a larger viv would have no effect on that though. Are you sure he hasn't shed? No one else cleans his viv? Is he still feeding well?

Yes he's feeding on a pinky every 5 days but i'm concerned taht the pinkies are too small shall i try feeding him two?
i've only had 3 sheds from him in all the time i've had him

only 3 sheds! I get like 3 sheds a month from our 5 month old! Try feeding him fuzzy mice.....(I've switched my corn from fuzzy mice to rat pinks, they seem to be slightly larger than mice fuzzies, and she took it like a champ) deffintly switch to something larger! like a mouse fuzzy ever 5 days and you should get a new shed in a few weeks.

looking a your signature this is your first snake. You'll be surprises how big a meal they can eat. Measure it's circumference at its fattest part multiply by 1.5. that will give you a suitable size for the approiate prey item. by 7-8 months it should be on hoppers or 2 fuzzies a meal.

I was pretty nervous uping the size with mine just something you have to get over. also as far as the shes go mine are just over a year and they have shed right around every 6 weeks, give or take.

once you start feeding it properly you really start to notice mome growth

Yeah this one is my first snake and i'm really appreaciative of all your help i've had expeience with lizards before and thought i should try out snakes since i have been fascinated by them ever since i was young i have always wanted to be a herpetologist.
Thanks again, Ross.

Yes you will notice a growth change.....
We put our corn in extreme low level stress enviroment (put a towel up so no one could see in and she couldn't see out). When we would go to feed her every friday we would be amazed how much she has grown.

When we got her she was MAYBE 7-8 inches long, now she is ATLEAST 2-2.5 feet long! She just turned 5 months old this last 14th :)

One pinky doesn't sound like enough food (remember, pinky mice are not *that* nutritious. The usual rule is to feed a food item that is roughly 1 - 1 1/2 times the snake's girth at its widest point. Also, when feeding, keep offering items until he refuses. I.e., instead of offering one pinky per meal, offer a second and a third until he's had enough. If he eats 2, next time, try a small fuzzy and use the same philosophy. When he is eating 2 small fuzzies, offer a large fuzzy or small hopper.

sapphire moon:

You said in a post above "I get like 3 sheds a month" that is A LOT of shedding. That would mean your snake is CONSTANTLY either shedding or in a shed cycle, and that is NOT normal.

Maybe you wrote that wrong?? I hope so. :)

ya once u feed your corn u should see a lump where the mouse went down corns have very strechy skin and can dislocate there jaw at 7 months i think my corn was at least eating 2 pinkies a week try placing a second pinkie once shes done the first if shes hungry she'll eat it.
kayla good luck keep us posted:)

lol, sorry about that ( I wouldn't have caught it!)!
I get about 1-2 sheds a month. She is slowing down to where one shed will start at the end of the month and she will shed at the begging of the month. So i guess thats 1.5 sheds a months, lol.

I didn't think snakes dislocate their jaws? I thought they stretched a tendon or ligament around their jaws or something like that?
