Oh, sorry about the language. I'm just angry and sad. I know that he wasn't eating, and ripped his own tail off, but I'm not sure that's how he died. I saw a brownish green spot on a lower part of his stomach. What could this be, a parasite? I didn't buy him, though. I hatched him. Thank you all for your support!:(

His tail was also brownish and bony before it fell off. Anybody know what these conditions could be?

Well it was deffinately extremely sick, especially for it so be bad enough for the tail to just fall off. I cant pin point anything, but was he eating enough, that can account for a thin tail. It sounds like a really bad parasite or infection, possibley worms.

And the brownish/green spot on his stomach when he died isn't sickness related. When they die something in their gizzards lets out a fluid that sicnks to the bottom.

The little guy would eat so much that I had to cut it short to a certain amount of crickets each day. Suddenly, he stopped eating, just like that. The shrivelled tail was sudden. First, a big healthy gecko with a fat tail, then BAM! He stops eating, his tail turns brown and he rips it or bites it off. I thought he was squinting, but on closer inspection, his eyes were sunken. I have no Idea exactly what parasite it is, since he didn't poop, so I couldn't get a fecal examination. His last poop, however, was not blank and white when it dried, but brown, chunky, and didn't have the rounded shape.

Anyway, I only have one idea how it could've reachted so suddenly. I got canned crickets for Christmas to be used when I ran out of live ones and the pet store ran out also. I cut them in small pieces for him, and he ate them furiously. However, I later noticed that he had puked these chunks into his water bowl. I haven't used canned crickets since. Could this be the cause?

Could parasites or bacteria have been in a sealed can of crickets?

Actually I think that is a VERY logical explanation. You should get on the website of the company's that makes and let them know what happened.Im not sure what to suggest.

it could have been that, but let me make a suggestion.. when feeding baby geckos, let them eat all they want.. don't stop because you think they eat to much.. they will stop when they are no longer hungry...my 2 babies would eat respectively between 5-15 crickets each and a few mealies in the calcium dish a day. They are both growing splendidly and have had no problems. they slowed down on their own and usually ewat about 5-8 a feeding now everyday.

they know when they are full, and will stop when they are done. in future, if they eat it keep on offering. after 10 minutes if they don't eat what is in the cage, then take it out.

hope you have better luck next time, and I am sorry for your loss, I hope you figure out what happened.

I was feeding my gecko as he pleased, but I got upset when he threw up. At that point I knew that something was wrong.
