Helping your Leo Shed??

This morning when I was making my rounds, I noticed that Freckles is shedding, I watched her for most of the morning (her last shed went without incident, but still fun to watch) and now she is down to her toes.

How long should I leave her to her own devises before I should help her get the skin off her toes? I know those are the sheds to watch for cause it can cut off blood supply, but I don't want to try and help if she won't need it. everything else shed no problem, just he toes (well her feet actually) still have skin on them.

And if I do have to help, what is the best way? You know Leo's, they won't stay still, and she is still young, (but growing like a weed, second shed in a couple of weeks or less)

Anyway any help would be appreciated... here is a pic...

WEll, anyway, I ended up putting her in a dish of warm water, and using a soft bristle toothbrush, and the 3 toes that were still covered in shed, came off no problem. :)

If my geckos can't get thier shed of thier toes within an 1-2 hours that's where i intervine.

This is the way i do it. Get a something like a tupperware bowl big enough so they can't crawl out. Put some warm water in the dish. enough to cover the toes. Let the leo soak for about 15 min(that should help loosen up the shed). From this point you should be able to gently rub off the remaining shed. If that doesn't work (if i have a stubborn piece of shed) I will get a toothpick out and GENTLY use it to get under the shed (without stabbing your leo). I've used this way for a few years now(when they have shedding problems.

They way to prevent this is having a nice moist hide, and making sure the humidity is higher when they are sheding.

Just 2 days ago one of my females was shedding. She couldn't get the shed off of one toe, she fiercly bit at it (is was only a small pice underneath and about half way down the toe.) I decided to intervine and i was to late. Since she was bitting so hard on it she broke her poor little toe and their was a very tiny amount of blood. It'll take a bit for her to heal, but she will be fine.

they do have a humid hide, on the warm side so the moisture keeps circulating, but like I said, i put her in a tupperware with warm water, and was able to brush the shed off with a soft toothbrush... it was funny, when Kenn was holding her (gently but firmly) she kept squeeking... we weren't hurting her! she's a little wuss.. and when I got the shed off, i was able to pet her back and head for the first time! usually they both try to get away, this time she sat clamly! and she didn't want to get off my hand to go back into her tank.. I think it was a thank you! lol :D
