hey everyone

last night when i couldn't get to sleep i was watching my geckos move around and eat. When i noticed my male (almost sure it is a male) attack my big female. he was almost wagging his tail and then he jumped at her and so she opoened her mouth and tried to bite at him. Since i got alot of money for christmas im going out to by rubbermaids and heat lamps and build a rack and everything. my female is twice the size of my male. Is he actually attacking her or are they trying to mate or what???

please help me.

thanks ,
Matt

He's making a mating attempt. Some males get sort of.... over zealous. They wag their tails, then try to grab the female on the back of the neck. Some just have a little more...jump in their step. ;)
Your female wasn't receptive.
If his mating attempts are stressing her out, getting them different enclosures is a good idea.

Males are almost always ready. If you think they shouldn't be mating, put them in different cages. Even for males, the animals should be old enough and have good body weight. Mating is stressful on them.

Usually I use 40 grams as a good minimum breeding weight for a male. You shouldn't put smaller males with females that are much larger because the male may get intimidated but that doesn't seem to be the case for your male.

Why is it that the males have to be a certain weigth before they breed. What could happen?

Just not ready... not mature enough. He may also get stressed.
