well one of the first leos i've ever had is showing major signs of improvments. she is 2 of the 4 geckos i've gotten from the supplier that have been troublesome (pm if u wanna know the supplier..). well starting off she ate little, then stopped eating all together. she lives alone and was not eating for about 3 months!! fecals were fine. but neways, over the past weeks i've been introducing her back to mealies as she completely ignores crix no matter how fast or big. and she's eating readily and very active. Mealies are extremely expensive here so i'm breeding them and am afraid i cant feed her till she's stuffed till i get beetles to lay eggs so for now i have to ration.

Tonight i was checking on the mealies and geckos and i decided to take her out after feeding her some large mealies. she licked my finger and hopped on!!! usually she runs around hitting sides of the aquarium but she actually got on my hand slowly and didnt shiver!! well i'm just completely happy and i had to share. thx!

Congrats!:D:D:D:D It's great to hear that you never gave up and that she is doing well again. Keep up the great work and keep us updated. So how much do you pay for your mealies anyways?

well i dont buy the small ones nemore cause they're.. small but they come in packs of 50 for a good price. but the large ones come in 25s for almost 4 USD! so i just bought 50 large and 100 small, put em in a tuppaware w/ oatmeal and carrots and a divider (small ones are for back up). so far no beatles.

crix are 75 cents a dozen here and the pet store owner is nice so he gives me extra but trinity doesnt eat crix.

make sure you have a lid with airholes in it,otherwise these beetles can and will escape rather easily..

Mealies 25 for $4 US? By any chance, you are not referring to Superworms?? Mealies are cheap,cheap.... 100 for $1.60 Canadian. Tiny little things. Put about 30 in a dish every night. Superworms (or Kings) are much larger..say 2 inches or so, and i pay .25 apiece when (if) i purchase from the pet store, which i ususally don't. I only have one BIG male leo that will eat Kings... the rest don't like em much. It would be nice if you could try a silkworm or butterworm... they are good feeders as well. :)

Congrats! Good to hear she's improving :D You don't by chance mean superworms? If you are indeed trying to breed superworms, they are quite different. They will not pupate in to beetles unless they are seperated from eachother (some people use film canisters or thread cases, some use large chunks of rotted wood). As for once you get beetles, the only use for a lid is to keep animals out, beetles of both mealies and supers cannot climb glass/plastic. If you do choose a lid, try to make it mesh, otherwise the substrate will mold easily.

nah i'm pretty sure these are mealies. i've seen supers before and these are mealies. yeah its expensive here. which is why i'm sticking to crix. cept for this special case.
