Just wanted to make it known...
At all the pet stores near me, screen covers are about $14 a peice and they fit over the top of the cage, which, without proper clamps, a hatchling snake could easily escape. And of course, the clamps are abot $3 for two. I went into Wal-Mart, bought my 10 gallon tank for $8.68 and the screen lid for $6.79. The lids at Wal-Mart, or at least the ones I found, fit inside the cage on the edges and have sliding locks to prevent any escapes. It's also 1/2 the price of the pet store lids that are escapable!

One problem with the ones from Wal-Mart is that they will warp and melt with any high heat (light, etc) being they are made of plastic. They are made to equip a standard flourescent 'fish tank' light. Also, I have found that the two small access holes will start to wear out after a lot of use, and even had a garter get out that way. Crickets can climb out relatively easily as well being that the slits are wide enough (Even neonate snakes can slip through).
I am confused, are you guys talking about the lids made from wire, or the ones made with window screen type screen? The window type screen one is the one you lift from the front using the white twist/clip....no acess doors...just a piece of screen with black siding/edging.
I have found those ones (that have the single white twist in front, made from similar material to window screen) to work the best. They fit on the inside rim of the tank making it impossible to get out of. So far for me anyways LOL!

The Wal-Mart screens are made for general animal housing. They are made of plastic and have locks that fit on the inside lip of 10 gallon tanks. They also have two round access holes either for feeding or adding tubing for mice, gerbils, etc. IMO they are not very good at keeping in snakes. They also cannot be used with a hot basking lamp. Good for mammals, not for herps. Every Wal-mart carries the exact same merchandise. What you find at one, you will find at every other. As for cages from Wal-Mart, I purchase the Sterilites.

Oh ok , the same as pet stores except the ones at the pet store are in metal meshing.
I still hate those lids, prob the lids I hate the most, you have to make sure those 2 back white pins are in properly and the fron one too (the one your turn). I prefer the solid metal ones, where they clip over the aquarium, my snakes never were able to lift those and they don't melt. Plus, those cheap ones that have the white clips, well they don't fit properly on all aquariums.
