Well I have a leopard that I have raised from a hatchling, she is now 8 years old and not doing so good. Im 98% sure she has an infection contracted from a bad cricket. Well Ill see if she improves much and if not then I will have to go with euthinasia. But here's my Q, what is the average lifespan of a CB Leopard gecko? I hear 20 years but I think that is more likely a wild one out in the rocky homeland of pakistan they are from. Anyone know for sure though?

TIA Jeff

I recently lost one of my 13 year old leopard geckos. She became very ill very fast after one heck of a tough move from Edmonton to Vancouver.

I'm sure someone must have an older one...

I don't have an older one, but the average life span is supposed to be close to 20 years.

on many caresheets it usually says around 10 is the average..20 is way off..who knows :)

I also read near 20 years in a book.
But it's all some case by case,
if it's a female, male, if it's cb or wc, what it's staple diet it, if it's a breeder or not, if it has some cooldown or not...

Her diet is dusted crickets, meal worms, super worms, and ive offered her silkies but she does not like them. I took her off breeding 8 months ago when I noticed she was getting skinny. Now she has been eating all this time but zero weight gets put on and her tail is like a pencil.

If you think she's sick from a possible parasite take her to the vet and have a fecal done. If it is a parasite then she gets meds and possibly better. If she's losing weight and still eating it's most likely a parasite.

The average life span in captivity is supposed to be between 15-20 years, but i've talked to the curator at the st. louis zoo a few times and he says they have a boy that is 32 years old now, and thier average is around 22-25 years.

that is cool, I hope mine will last as long.

as for your leopard gecko that has a pencil tail, I also think it's parasites. Should get her treated, most medecines aren't expensive (panacur and flagil are mostly used)

Go with Panacur orally. I have used Metrodazinole (Flagyl) and it did not have any effect. But then I used Panacur and it worked.

This Gecko has become weakened and then the internal parasites took over. She needs to be medicated asap.

I have heard Geckos live anywhere from 10 -20 years.

You can't just advise which medication should be used. Each parasite has it's own PROPER medication that should be given. If you get a fecal done and the vet discovers she has a parasite your VET will know which medication to give. Do NOT give your leo any medication without seeing a vet!!!!

Example:
Round worms- Panacur is used.
Coccidia- Albon is used.

So on an so forth, sorry my book is downstairs that has the charts for parasites, medication, and doses.

If your leo does have a parsite and you don't give it the PROPER medication to begin with then you may cause more harm than good. Seeing most medications will have the side affect of, Loss of appetite.

i've heard the average gecko lives about 15 years, but lol,it's just what i heard,i don't personally own any geckos over 3 years old so it's hard for me to be the judge on this one,i wish you well with your gecko, and maybe you should consider getting a fecal done(here they cost me 13.50 canadian)and keeping your gecko on one of those liquid insectivore diets i've heard about

I have a book (I believe it's called something like "The Leopard Gecko Care Book") that says on average they live 17 yrs. Who knows if that is correct or not, but just thought I'd throw another number out there! :)
