Here's my new humidifier that I got for my snake room. In the summer the humidity is fine but this fall it has been falling like pants at a prom! This thing is great my room is now always around 60 or just above.

Nice Trev, Mine is a cheapy that can only be turned on and off. Yours looks programmable? Will it come on when the humidity drops below a certain level? Whered you get it? cost? JIm

I bought her a foot soak/message/tickle bath thing for x-mass and she bought me the humidifier.
Jim,
It's from wal-mart and cost $80 + tax. It is very programable, I still haven't figured it all out yet. You can set the humidity level you want and how many hours you want it to run for. I have it set to run for 10hrs at a time. The fan has two power setting as well. There are two kinds of humidifiers at wal-mart, a cool mist and a warm mist. The warm mist being the more expensive. I went with the warm mist because I figured blowing cold water into the air at night would probably not be such a great idea.
Cheers,
Trevor

I didn't realize until recently that there are like 4 different kinds of humidifiers. I bought an evaporative one and ended up taking it back a few days later. I brought it home and set it up only to discover it consists of a pan of water with a 2-speed fan. It increased the humidity in a medium sized bedroom from the low 20s to the high 20s which just didn't satisfy me. It also sounded like a goddam helicopter. That one in the pic looks nice, I wonder what the net increase in humidity was and how big of a room it is operating in.

Trevor, my humidifier does the same as yours but looks nowhere near as futuristic, very cool. Just curious, do you have electric heat, because most gas-heated homes keep humidity at around 50-60%?

I've used them all. There are problems with them all.
Years ago the ultrasonic ones were all the rage and I had a few of those. They work great while they work, but they don't stay working. Mineral deposits in most city water eventually crudes up the resonator and then they stop working. You can CLR them a couple times, but I rarely got more than a couple years out of them.
The hot mist type, has a bad habit of working against you, as they evaporate water by heating it, but as a by product they also heat your room up, making the air, less capable of holding the water they're producing. We had one in the bedroom and it would actually make the room too hot.

The cold mist ones, with no heater, that simply use forced air through some sort of evaporation sponge pad, or drum, are the best ones in my opinion, but you need to buy a big one with big reservoir, otherwise you'll be filling the stupid thing every day, until you get tired of it and toss it in the closet, which is where mine now is.
And yes, if you have to sleep with a humidifier in the room, the noise of some of these things is a huge issue, plus some make an annoying water fall or dripping sound...test drive them all first if possible and look for the quietest one.
If you have a separate herp room, that is less of an issue.

Yeah mykee it's electric and wood heat, very dry. The snake room is electric. You're right Roy I fill it every day.

Thats what i hate about our cool mist forced air unit, sounds like a jet on low (high is even worse) and gotta fill it every day.

Thats a pretty coll looking/sounding product Trev!
Definately something i might consider buying for next winter.

I guess im not alone...As it seems like every programmable heater/humidifier has a short life span.
Pleanty of people i know replace them all the time... either there thermostat busts and temps reach extremes or they just stop working altogether.
Thank god for Home depots lenient return policy. :D

I remember returning a heater at home depot that stopped working, funny thing was that the guy infront of me was returning the same heater...lol

Trev, let us know if its still working next winter!
