YEAH!!!!

I finally got my Female JCP to eat and a rat too. I tried so many differnt thing just to get it to eat. Today I called in sick to work, I wasnt felling good but I got bored(no tv here) so I decided to try and feed her. so I warmed up a fuzzy rat grabbed it in the thongs by the tail and dangled it in front of her, no good. So I grabbed it butt in the tongs and moved it around a bit near her and she started to take some intrest. she struck at it a few time but that was it. So I kept wiggling it like it was having a sizure(nothing to drastic)an occasionally I'ld give her a poke with the rats nose. Finally she attacke and constricted.

BUT an hour later she haddent touched it so I said screw it and gave it to my other JCP. He just ate 5-6 days ago and after a few hours he hadnt take it. Soooo I tried giggling it for the female again and shee tagged it a few times. I grabbed a container of hot water to reheat the rat an as soon as I went to put it infront of her she was all over it. I just went up to check on her and she's got a nice full belly:D. Between the 2 attempts I porbably spent 30mins giggling that frigin rat. I hope its not this much work all the time.

Also, just a tip:

If they constrict and don't eat it right away, 19 times out of 20 it will be gone by morning. I always give them about 10-12 hours with it in there before I decide that they aren't going to eat it. It gets to the point about a month or so after the clutch hatches, I just go through the baby rack and drop the F/T rat pups in the front of the Rubbermaid. By morning, 90% of them are gone. Next night I drop one in the cages that didn't eat, and they are all gone by morning.

Congrats. Love the stripe! When that stripe is YELLOW, its going to be stunnnnnning. :D

Congrats, It is always a good feeling when they eat.

I think many people do not have the rodent warm enough when offering it to the snake for the first time. Make surre it is warm. Has anybody else found this??

yea I have with one of my water pythons the Mouse has to be pretty warm and totally dry or it will not eat it straight away... so most of the time i just leave it in with the snake overnight
Cheers

hehe, ya Jeff I know thats how its suppost to work but it think she was in a rut. She has constricted a number of times before. and the just left it to stink the place up in the morning. There is nothing the smell of a rat on the hot spot for 12 hours, I can smell it when I wake up, barf:). Glad to see your back posting, you take a holiday after you cleared out your stock? Any luck with the hogs? If so if you still have my email send me some pics of the potential parents:)

Derrick, its been crazy. Just trying to finish off the season, but it keeps going, and going, and........

I am not doing the Hogs this year. Dumb move, but I think next year (2004) will be almost too much to handle as it is. Something has to give, as raising 300 baby boas and pythons is just too much work. I am holding out on the 2 female Hogs that could go (4 feet, 30 months old) until next fall. At that time, the other 3 females will be ready as well!! Its just crazy bro.

How's the weather doing? You MUST have frostbote by now? LOL!! Hey when you move the Jungles to the adult cage, I have to send you some of this bark stuff. Its is the BOMB for Jungle cages. No joke.

Cheers bud. Those animals are in good hands, and let me say, that is refreshing to see! :D

hehe we've only had a couple of -30 days at work. The coldest I've bee was on a -10 day when I fell through some ice up to my chest and had a 1hr shidoo ride back to some warmth. hehe been a few years since I've done that.

As long as it doesnt come with mites like that crap I bought for my corns at the pet store. How big will they be at a year? Porbably hard to tell with thier parents, I guess.

Thx and thx for the great snakes. They are both really calming down. Still a little nervous but I havent been tagged for a few weeks.

They'll reach adult size in 2 years. I move mine to their adult enclosures at about 12-16 months of age.
